In Pokemon X, Nintendo's massively successful creature breeding and battling franchise returns with a new species of starter Pokemon, new mega evolution, improved connectivity, and for the first time in the series, full 3D graphics. As always, players take on the role of a young battle trainer, who goes on quests to catch and train Pokemon, then engage in turn-based battles with other trainers to upgrade and evolve their Pokemon. The new adventure is set in the France-like Kalos region, with the ultimate goal of obtaining the eight Kalos Gym Badges and defeating the Elite Four. Gamers begin by choosing from three starters Pokemon, but they can rapidly access dozens more through trainer battles, random wilderness encounters or trades with friends. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y both offer a unique new Legendary Pokemon, while the new mega evolution feature lets high-level Pokemon briefly evolve into the extremely powerful Mega form. Players can help build up their Pokemon's stats through practice battles in the new Super Training mode, and the Pokemon-amie feature lets them increase their bond with the Pokemon by using the stylus and touch screen to pet, scratch and play with the creatures. In addition to the classic turn-based battles, Pokemon X offers new Horde Battles, which pit one Pokemon against multiples foes, and new Sky Battles, in which only flying Pokemon can participate. Multiplayer content remains a key part of the franchise, with the new Player Search System (PSS), letting gamers connect to the Internet and find friends all around the world. Good stuff
I'd already bought got Pokemon Y but I wanted another game for Wonderlockes/Nuzlockes etc. This game's pretty standard fare in that it contains some Pokemon only available in this version, so trading with others in encouraged. The storyline is good, even if your character's group of friends can get annoying, and for more seasoned players it may feel a bit hand-holdy. Lots of healer NPCs. Your character's appearance and clothing is widely customisable and the various towns and other locations are greatly varied. Some camera angles can be challenging to work with, in particular Lumiose city, but it's an easy enough thing to overcome.
