Solved a problem with an old TV
My son has an older TV that couldn't lock onto any BBC channels. It was a good TV nice picture and sound but the limited EPG and BBC channels issues were pointing it towards the skip. poor reception and clumsy remote.
Good price but i am disappointed with the product. Intermittent signal leading to missing dialogue especially bad on the radio tuner with lost speech every minute. On the TV setting the synch is off between sound and picture which makes everything you watch seem like a badly dubbed kung-fu movie. Messages continually pop on screen such as "LCN has changed" and a constant message asking if you want to re-tune the box. The navigation both on the remote and the on-screen menu is very non-standard and clumsy with actions such as changing channels really slow to react to instructions. For the money i should be happy but i do not find the product user friendly giving a poor quality of viewing and listening. I have had one of these Dion Stb1Aw11 Digital Set Top Box Portable Recievers with 7 Day Program Guide. I've used it daily for several months since purchasing it. I found it easy to set up and get working with my TV. The use of box is very easy using remote control unit. One feature I do like about the box. You can ask it to do extra audible descriptions during programmes. This is good for people with partial sight or Blind. The box is great as it turns it's self off after 3 hours if no-0one uses remote control. However, it turns it's self on to add system updates. These units are worth purchasing. Saved me throwing out a good TV.
I couldn't use the TV to watch programmes anymore although it can be used to play games but It is in my spare room for visitors to watch and purchasing this box has saved me having to buy a new TV. Good things in small package
Tiny piece of kit but does the job!! Brought this as a replacement for my digi box which had broke. Only got the box and remote, but lacking the SCART lead and strangely the batteries for the remote, Still no big loss as had these from the previous box. It would pose a problem for a first time buyer. Installing the box was easy - just a scart lead from the box to the TV and the aerial in the back. Automatically went into set up and leads you though the process step by step, Only complaint if any any is the electronic program guide only shows a 2 hour slot, which makes browsing a problem. Works but appalling user interface.
Luckily I bought this as a cheap item for very infrequent usage. Had it been for daily use I would have returned it. The reception it produces is OK although it can be a little slow changing channels and the EPG is not presented at all well. It has the infuriating habit of frequently popping up a window asking if I want to search. For what? I have no idea. Even worse is the difficulty of deleting unwanted channels. I have always believed the EPG is populated quicker if unnecessary channels are removed but trying to do so with this beast would probably take longer than my expected lifespan. I think it takes about ten key presses to delete a single channel during which time it adds insult to injury by asking if I want to search!! Easy to set up
I say easy because the master of the house, a technophobe, set this up all on his own, possibly because his next best friend is the tv. It was a kitchen tv so I thought easier to buy another one but no we had to get another box, the third one on an 8 year old flat screen. Dodgy diddlers and diggi boxes
Because our thingy box (that's a technical term) was dodgy ( another t term) and the diddler (yep you've guessed it) stopped working I decided to search you out. Your diddler is responsible for the repair of the our telly and it now works. Now, due to your due diligence in getting said article to us so quickly, my husband can return into his bedroom, never to be seen again.....hopefully. The 5 stars you have been awarded, reflect my gratitude , as now he is no longer to be seen rummaging around my fridge, pinching my Quorn sausages, and stealing my Frys Chocolate creams, as he is too occupied watching The News at Ten and Antiques roadshow. I am VERY grateful for your assistance in getting me my life back, and I can now watch Doc Martin, in relative peace and quiet ...... And as a woman who is still working hard at the grand old age of 106 (or that's what it feels like,) it is REEEEEEELY appreciated that there are unsung heroes like yourself, willing to sacrifice their dodgy diggi boxes for the benefit of others.
