Adaptable compact jig for flattening, surfacing and trenching work on wide or irregular shaped material. END GRAIN ROUTING - Routing cut across the surface of end grain for clean finish. NO FIXED SUB BASE REQUIRED - Simple guide bush location cradle for fast set up and removal.
Better with longer (maybe 800 mm cross bars with more than one "end" hole. The bar diameter would still be stiff enough. But a really versatile solution would be say 16mm bars 1000 mm long.
The 30mm guide is trouble as it too small for a good planer bit, which restricts the plunge and makes assembly annoying. Have not looked at a home made alternative but there probably is one.
Hard to fit the long tracks on softwood timber battens sufficiently accurately to avoid "catch" when sliding the carriage past the joins (maybe my poor workmanship). I had, in the end, to smooth a little with the rat tail file.
Disappointing quality for a Trend labelled product
Overall not impressed. Too much variation in skid dimensions and depth of slide trench. Will need to machine then all so that they are identical where it matters. It would be so easy to make these really very good instead of just OK. As long as you are prepared to work through the issues then they can produce good results hence I would recommend it to those willing to persevere!.
