The right spec for home user
This is the latest 5-bay NAS from Synology. The setup is easy, I used only a few screws (partially) to secure all five 6TB drives, and installing the two 500GB NVMe sticks are zero force without screws! Connecting up two ethernet cables for LAG and the power supply, I was sent to the DSM setup menu. Building an entire SHR-1 btrfs array takes little time before I can start accessing the array and copying some of my files over, and I was almost unaware of the first ever background integrity checks which spent another 1.5 days to complete. I also installed Plex and Synology Drive, and added new ports for Port Forwarding with Quick Connect, and I found the hardware transcoding to work and produce overall better performance than my 3 year old DS1817+. Synology products are super reliable and low cost to maintain, of course DS1520+ is the right spec for SOHO and the most of us home users.
