Product Information
You can hold a piece of never before seen history in your hand. The Peace Silver Dollars were minted in Philadelphia from 1921 until 1928 to commemorate the end of World War I. After changes in legislation, the coins were minted again in 1934 and 1935. Production of the coins was once again halted in 1935 due to the Great Depression. These available Peace Silver Dollars were minted in the years 1922-1925. Peace Dollars are often considered the last true silver dollar because they are made up of 90 percent fine silver and have a weight of .77344 troy ounces. The remaining 10 percent of the coin is comprised of copper. Peace Dollars can have inherent value because they are also the last coin the U.S. minted from real silver. Following the Great Depression, the U.S. no longer minted coins with precious metals. The Peace Dollar was designed by Anthony de Francisci, whose wife, Teresa, fulfilled her childhood dream of modeling for Lady Liberty. Her young, beautiful version of the American Lady Liberty was well received by the press and public alike. The obverse side of the coin features a left-facing profile of Teresa’s Lady Liberty with a radiate crown similar to Roman coins. Around Lady Liberty’s head is the phrase “Liberty.” Near her neck is the phrase “In God We Trust” and the year of mint. The coin’s reverse side features the American eagle at a watchful rest. The eagle stands on a rock that has the word “PEACE” carved into it. Underneath is an olive branch and the rays of the sunrise from below. At the top of the coin reads the words “United States of America E Pluribus Unum.” Below the bird is the coin’s denomination amount: one dollar. The Peace Dollar is a larger style of coin with a diameter of 38.1mm. The Peace Dollar can be highly popular among collectors as it had one of the shortest minting periods of any U.S. currency and was the last silver dollar to be minted. Its rarity can make it highly valuable for any coin collection. Artist Anthony di Francisci’s Peace Dollar was the result of a contest looking for a new dollar design. HIs rendition of Lady Liberty was based on his wife and the Statue of Liberty, which resulted in a familiar, patriotic look Americans could appreciate. The reverse side’s eagle holding an olive branch symbolizes peace and commemorates the peace seen after World War I. These silver coins can tell a story of a different America. The Peace Dollar can remain a symbol of unwavering American optimism and resilience during the best and worst of times. Each of these silver dollars are a rarity, having never been circulated, so the coins are in pristine condition. These Peace Dollars can look almost as shiny and lustrous as the day they were minted more than 90 years ago. Collectors can love to add these beautiful, choice coins to their collection.Product Identifiers
