You'll be glad you moved away from analogue to digital with this phone
This digital phone should not be confused with very similar looking analogue handsets. It only connects to a "BT Smart Hub 2" router using Wi-Fi technology (not Bluetooth - which depends on the two devices being within sight of one another). The handset feels heavy and nicely balanced. I find it comfortable to hold and it can be placed on a flat surface without tipping over (although it's a bit unstable so don't put it onto a moving surface). It has all the basic features I need, including the all important hands-free, speaker functionality and the ability to make internal calls. In fact, the speaker in these handsets can go so loud that it sounds like a radio; surprisingly loud for a handset. This is one of it's best features. The ringtone can be set from silent to very loud. BT Smart Hub 2 technology allows up to TWO phone calls at the same time. So if you're on the line and another phone call comes in then someone else can answer the phone on another handset. Similarly, if you're using the phone and someone in your household needs to make a call then they can pick up another handset and make it without waiting for you to finish. This only works if you have a BT Smart Hub 2 and digital handsets like the one shown here. If you have an analogue phone but have converted over to BT's new digital technology (which they are in the process of doing now) then you can ask them to send you a white box, called a Digital Voice Adapter (DVA), that plugs into a mains socket and connects your old analogue phone to a Smart Hub 2 router in a similar way to your BT Essentials Digital Phone. You may also find an old phone socket on the back of your Smart Hub 2 router that allows you to plug-in a old analogue handset without having to use a DVA. Not all Smart Hub 2 routers have this socket however. BT say the sound quality on this phone is much better than on an analogue phone but until everyone moves over to digital technology then you'll still find yourself having to strain to hear good quality speech for most phone calls. I haven't yet heard the kind of quality that digital is capable of; as a minimum, I would expect a frequency response of 500 Hz to 12kHz (±1dB) with a signal-to-noise ratio >50 dB. The BT app that accompanies the Smart Hub 2 and digital phone is very well programmed and does exactly what is needed to configure your Wi-Fi and phone network. You can also rename your phones to reflect their location in the app itself. All in all, I'm finally happy with my upgrade to digital phone technology.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
