Very Nice, Basic, Cost Effective Router

Very nice for the price! Funtions well, plenty of options to play with in the web-based Admin/Management system. Mine was easy to set up and worked first time out the box. For the price it is a very good value. Also contains a USB print server (which I have not tested). Wireless options and speed are, however, quite basic: so be aware of that limitation if you use wireless every day... If you are looking for a low-cost, quality router (and you don't need fast/regular wireless, don't care about having all the bells, whistles, and never use expert settings and detailed connection stats/data), then this TP-Link product is well worth considering.

  • Most critical review

It's ok, slight disappointment given price and looks.

Surprisingly weak signal for router this price - I wonder if those antennas are more a gimmick rather than strong functional feature. Has some issues dropping out signal even at moderate range and losing ADSL when upload rates are high, but not too often.

  • A simple but good router

The price was excellent (circa £33) and it is manufactured by one of the most reputable names in the business. It is very easy to set up and works very well. The good points are the price, ease of setup, ability to work with both ADSL and VDSL, and functionality. The advanced menu has a enormous range of options, including using the router as a range extender. The restrictions and limitations rather than bad point are that it is single-band only and the USB will allow only storage devices with the right formats (I don’t think that these include the usual format for a Mac computer - Mac OS Extended). Another minor irritation is that the fairly bright LED display cannot be dimmed or turned off at night. It’s difficult to guage accurately but I do not think that its range is better than a BT Home Hub 5 - perhaps slightly less. For less than £35, you can’t go wrong.

  • Great as a standalone VDSL Fibre modem in bridge mode

This modem, in it's v1,v2 or v3 version (but NOT v4) has a rock solid Broadcom chip which gives really stable and consistent connections if you're on FTTC (fibre to the cabinet). If your router doesn't have a modem, this is ideal to use as a bridge connection to your broadband ISP. Just turn off the wireless and DHCP settings which are handled by your main router. In bridge mode mode it uses a fraction over 3 watts, so it's pretty economical. Thoroughly recommended as a modem. I suspect that the wireless features, if used as a full blown router will not satisfy modern needs unless you're a one person user in a bedsit ;-). Just make sure you check the version number before purchase. As of writing the latest version is version 4 and it apparently has a less capable MediaTek chipset.

  • GOod basic router, good performance

Easy to set up, performs well in everyday use and has been reliable so far. The case design is quirky but it does appear to incorporate plenty of ventilation. There are only two aerials but I have got good reception so far in a flat which is all on one floor.

  • Good budget router

Purchased as a back up to Zyxel router which is twice the price of the thisTP-Link. However, while Wi-Fi speeds are a little slower range is comparable and it is easy to set up.

  • Good product at a very good price.

Easy to set up with current Mac computers and iPads, not so easy with older Windows PCs.

  • Does the job

Easy to use. Plenty of settings to tweak if that's your thing. Compact, stylish. Low power (6W). Can turn WiFi off. And why I bought it? I didn't like my BT Home Hub saying 'BT WiFi status - Active'.

  • Great, but ensure you have correct internet user name.

Set up is fairly straightforward as long as you have your correct internet user name from your ISP. My problem was that it took 3 contacts with Vodafone in order to get the correct one. Once I had it, it was up and running.
