    Good box but.....

I like the box and i like the design of it even though almost everybody else that bought one seems to hate it. Bought the box, bought the gift and had it set up within a few minutes......there is not much of an improvement in the image quality.....but then again the image quality of the v8s i had was perfect. As far as the channel lists go, they are badly laid out and i much prefer the menu design of the v8s. The v8s was far easier to navigate. However it is still early days for the v9s and hopefully there will be a good software update and channel list update soon that may fix the issues. My advice, If you have a v8s and are not having any problems, stick with it for awhile until this one gets tightened up a wee bit :)

    Not a well designed system.

With the new version of the Openbox system you can no longer create your own favourite list. The menu is flaky at best. Time sync is a major problem. There are benefits such as upgrades to the firmware etc over the network. The channel list is taken from key zones, UK, Spain, Portugal and default. Once the list comes down you then have to spend a long time reordering the channels dropping national channels for local ones which may or may not save correctly. Moving up and down channels is very hit and miss. Going from BBC1 to BBC2 for instance will not work by pressing up on the remote. You have to select Entertainment channels and select BBC2 and hit OK. Overall I would rate this 1 out of 5, it has a long way to go before it meets the requirements and flexibility of the V8S. Unfortunately I read the other reviews after I tried to work with the box. After 2 hours of playing with it and getting nowhere I relegated it to the kitchen and moved my old V8 into the main sitting area.

  • Ok if you don't want epg

The menu system is nice and easy to navigate, you can update the firmware and channel lists without needing a usb stick. It has built in wifi, but you have to check a box to automatically connect to your network otherwise when you reboot you have to connect again. The cam setup was easy enough but there wasn't any indication it was saved or online, but all this works ok once it's set up correctly. The real problem is the EPG, there is no manual update, and all you can see is now and next - and only on the channel you have the cursor on, for example if you're watching 1 and press epg to see what is on another channel, you have to move the cursor onto it else it says 'not available'. I'm assuming it gets the epg via the internet and the server is unreliable, but there's no option to get it via satellite instead. So it's not very user configurable, and the EPG is rubbish, but it works ok. If I were buying another one, I'd stick to a V8s until they release better firmware.

  • Good box

My first FTA satellite box so wasn't sure what to expect from something so cheap. The OSD and remote are responsive and fast, even if some of the menus are slightly basic and strangely worded. However once i got used to it it's fine, certainly at least equal to the basic OSD built into the TV. Understanding which satellites to scan is unintuitive for a newbie, but once I got the hang of it I am very happy with this box.

  • Easy set up

So for £36 I wasn't expecting a lot so after plugging it in there was all the channels all set up u do have to move them around witch took me about 1 hr as I wanted hd ones the wifi set up is the same as u phone set up but YouTube seems to be the only thing that works great but I haven't played around yet there is a USB on the side for a external hard drive so you can record. one on the back didn't find it .the remote is good with big number buttons there is all the channels listed on freesat as for freeview we lost channels because of signal problems it doesn't come with pencil battery's u need two for the remote the epg is good and not slow so I'm happy with this

  • So far so good

For the price this little box seems to work well enough. The only negative I can see is the remote control. At times it seems to have a mind of its own.

  • Still needs work but great improvement over V8

This box is a great improvement over v8 but still needs some work on the interface. Saying that for the price I cannot complain.

  • Nice cost effective STB

This is second of these I've bought as I was impressed by the V8S model. The cost is impressive and it is very straight forward to set up and use with supplied nanual. Should further info be needed YouTube is a very good stand bym especially for such things as CCCAM inclusion.
