Function first, Safety forgotton
For a relativly small motor it is more than capable, it does take a time to blend the contents to a smooth consistency, but does a good job when it eventually gets there. Compared to other blenders we have owned, this one is relativly quiet. A down side and in our book a major one: safety Our old Ninja would not even murmer a whimper of power unless the jar was securely on and the lid was completely locked, or if no jar was on the base. This Kitchen aid for a significantly priced unit lacks any concept of safety. If the jar is completely off the base, you can press any speed button and the centre spindle on the base will whip into a spin (this could be dangerous for small children, although there is no cutter it could create quite a speed burn) Secondly; you can completely remove the lid while the motor is running and the unit will continue to blend away, allowing you or a small child to put their hand in the blender and chop their fingers off (this seems dramatic but it is quite possible) In our opinion; with common sense the unit is fine, but accident potential is there for the taking.
