Additional InformationAn historian has to prove his innocence from a murder. His tortuous trail leads to strange going-ons at a house converted from The Pale Horse inn. There a coven of modern-day witches apparently use black magic to kill people but the truth is much more convoluted.
I really like this film. Made in 1997 before the ITV Jane Marple effort and the more recent dire BBC job, this one sticks more faithfully to Agatha Christie's novel.
It is set in the swinging 60s. Some of the shots might by today's digital standards be a little grainy but look past that to the quality of the writing and the performances - Colin Buchanan, Hermione Norris, Jayne Ashbourne, Leslie Phillips, Andy Sirkis, Ruth Maddock, Jean Marsh, Louise Jameson - an all star cast.
Perfect Saturday evening entertainment. Sheer bliss.
This is a great production of a great Agatha Christie book. I am an avid watcher of any of Mrs Christie’s work and I really enjoyed this one.
It is a far superior version of the story than that weird production of the same book shown over 2 nights on BBC over Christmas 2019.
