    Work fine

I have a high end AV amp and wanted to play my turntable through it..as it did not have Phono connection on it I am using another spare connection point.(Tape) I needed to buy this pre-amp to boost the signal from my turntable to my AV amp,so bought one of these.I am using a 9v battery with mine and must admit there is a slight hum from it,but only noticeable in between tracts of the record,My amp is very powerful it's not a dedicated music amp it's an AV amp but it still works fine and the slight hum is not really a problem, especially as this unit is not a lot of money to buy

  • Most critical review

Cheap and cheerful, but not great.

Connected the pre amp to my amplifier and record deck. my immediate reaction was that I had not connected something properly as there was a lot of background noise similar to mains hum ad a higher pitched screech. After moving the wires around I disconnected the mains adapter and replaced it with a 9v battery. All the background noise disappeared and the sound came through. The frequency range is not the best though and once I find something better, it will be replaced.

  • Fantastic for its price, no issues at all!

I recently got back into vinyls, and purchased a turntable to run through my semi decent cinema kit. Low and behold I found I needed a preamp. After looking up many models ranging from £20 to in the hundreds, I came across this one. Now, I'm not an audiophile, nor do I have 'top' range gear. So, despite some poor reviews of this, I thought I'd give it a go due to its bargain price. Now, I set it all up today and I am VERY impressed with the sound I'm getting. I'm having no issues with hum via the unit, and I haven't had to set up a ground or anything. It works perfectly, and the sound I get through the cinema kit is fantastic...I quite honestly didn't expect it. If you're getting into vinyl again, and don't have the budget, nor inclination to get top quality gear....this is definitely a must if you need a turntable preamp.

  • AV Link Pre Amp - does the job

Bought this so I could use my turntable with my amp which has no phono input. I does the job fine so have got all my vinyl out. You get a small amount of buzzing when volume is high but this disappears when you play the records

  • Magnetic cartridge Pre-Amp

Having decided to resurrect my hi-fi turntable I needed a separate pre amp as my current amplifier inputs didn't match. After some internet searching I found there were some options, some in excess of £80 others at a fraction of the cost but both doing the same function. I decided on this unit on price and functionality, its small and works perfectly well, I'm now re-enjoying all my vinyl records again. I'm sure from a technical or scientific point the more you pay the more you get but to be honest having listened to the music through my old amp and this new set-up I can't tell the difference, so in my book this unit works great.

  • Review of Magnetic cartridge amplifer AV link

Easy to use, it perfectly converted my low signal of 4mv pick up to feed my radio AUX input. It uses a small PP3 battery but when using their 240 to 9volt dc adaptor there is hum, the adaptor is a SMPS type which often creates RFI interference on MW bands. But its well made, cheap, and works very well.

  • Great piece of kit for the money.

I bought this because I had unwittingly purchased an amplifier which did not have an inbuilt preamp. It was very simple to install and exceeded my expectations when playing albums. The speaker sound quality was good and for the price I think it is great value for money. The only thing I did find was that connecting the turntable earth to the amplifier rather than using the connection provided on the preamp eliminated hum completely.

  • Good on Battery !

: Operated off a PP9 internal battery it works very well. However there a coulple of issues with the design. 1. There's no termination for the ground sheild line that is usual with a magnetic pickup. So it has to be stripped back and wedged under one of the two phone outers. 2. The mains adaptor produces a very significant amount of interference which for me was too much. I put a 'scope on it and could see 1.2KHz noise spikes, probably off the mains switching system. Anyone having trouble here could try a ferite bead on the supply line - may help. So I'll be using it on battery, consumption is very low ( a mA or so) so it'll last a good while.

  • Great value and does the job perfectly.

I bought this little amp to boost the signal from my turntable,to my Cambridge audio one. It does the job perfectly with no distortion or hum heard at all. I looked at all makes and prices of pre amps and thought I'd give this one a go, after all what do you have to loose at under £14?! As I sit here writhing this I'm enjoying listening to the warm sounds of vinyl again due to this fantastic value little box. Who knows how long it will last? And I'm sure the audiophile will turn their noses up at the price. But it works wonderfully well!

  • avlink phono preamp

My sample is only suited to budget hi-fi systems, as the PSU supplied (switch mode) gives out a lot of noise (hum). In addition to the 9v dc output, mine was also putting out 18-19v ac, which was probably the noise culprit. Running from a 9v battery got rid of the noise however, but listening via a high resolution source, there was too much distortion present for medium to high end use, especially in the treble area. Value for money was good, and if it is only used on a budget system it may be fine. A clean 9v PSU should be sourced, and the one supplied used for something else where it would be fine. With a phono to headphone lead, it can be used as a fixed output headphone amp, although headphones with integral volume control should be used to prevent overdriving them (mine were fine). I will keep mine as a standby/headphone amp, but not for serious listening ! Still good value for the money.
