    Cheap and cheerful

These are Neilsen branded diamond plates, and really pretty good for the modest price. Yes, you can get better diamond sharpening plates, and yes, they will cost many times more. I wouldn't regard these as a complete sharpening system all by themselves, and they won't replace my Arkansas stones for final honing, but they are nice and compact to slip into a toolbox, good for a quick touch-up, and you can stick leather on the back to make a handy strop. I'll be buying a second set, because at this price they are just handy to have around. Very good service from this seller too.

    Not for plane irons

I bought these to refurbish some rusty plane irons and true up my sharpening stone. I think I was asking way too much of this sharpening set. They quickly wore out. They aren’t very expensive at all so you do get what you pay for. Might be okay for lighter use, but not sure in that one. It It was a good experiment, now I will buy something of better quality at a much higher price .

  • Useful grinding surfaces

Being light and thin they can be used in a great variety of applications including sharpening plane blades and chisels. They are not designed to be perfectly flat although they are quite good in this respect. Sticking them with double sided tape to properly flat surfaces will improve their performance with flat backed blades. It seems to me that they could usefully be more different in their grit sizes. The finest is hardly a final hone for a sharp blade. Steel removal -very good. Durability? -Too early to say. These seem extremely good for the very modest price.

  • useful addition to my workshop

can't comment on the longevity of the stones, but I have used them to sharpen a few silver steel gravers, and they cut well, the only negative, and its not really a negative just me being picky, the extra fine stone I would describe at best as fine maybe 4-600 grit but they do work and the course stone is very aggressive which is great to remove a damaged end. All in all considering the price I am very satisfied with them.

  • Does the job well.

I have several sets of these, great value and a very usable product. Does the job well. I have more expensive diamond plates too for sharpening larger jointer blades but these work as well for most my initial sharpening. Site chisels and blades. Grade your sharpening down through yellow, red then green and a quick strop for a hair shaving sharp finish.

  • Not suitable for chisels and plane blades etc

Surface is not flat. Both in length and width the surface is curved. I could easily bend the stone in an attempt to straighten it. The difference between course and extra fine is hardly discernible. Not suitable for sharpening chisels or planes. I have glued them down to a flat surface and will be ok for non precision sharpening like shears. I’m not impressed with this product but on the plus side it was not expensive.

  • Sharp piece of kit

This product works very well.I use them mainly to put a final edge on my carbide lathe tools, but also my wood working chisels. Out of deference to the product, I also use alight oil to help things along. I know I'm not sharpening things like scissors, and it's a pretty industrial use, but so far, so good.

  • 5 Star Diamond Sharpening

A great set of diamond sharpeners. Small enough to use in your hand or fit into a block on your workbench

  • Diamond sharpening plates excellent product

Really good value ! An excellent means to obtain a truly viciously sharp blade ! My one caveat is I would love to see either a holder for them or a truly bon slip base

  • Sharpening stone set

I used the extra fine stone to sharpen a carbide metal cutting saw blade. Did the job okay. Cheap at the price as it’s already paid for itself. They are slightly flexible, so you might want to attach them to a piece of steel plate
