Don't throwaway your sparking microwave!

Good quality sheet for making your own replacement
This is just a plain sheet of mica, you need to cut it to size with scissors, using the old sheet as a template. This can be a bit tricky, the only reason for 4 stars, a pore-cut sheet would be 5 stars! The mica is nice and thick, so it should stand up to use and be easy to keep clean. The main reason the mica fails is food waste accumulating on it, which ends up carbonising creating a conductive patch that arcs violently, making the situation worse. If you get arcing, try scraping the mica clean, you shoudl be able to do this a few timers before the mica gets so thin it needs replacing. Don't run the microwave without the mica in place, if food gets up the horn you won't get it out and it will end badly!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Bought it yesterday, received it second post today. An excellent and inecpensive repair kit. My microwave guide cover died a death, it was over 25 years old so had done well. Unfortunately my microwave is obsolete so i couldn't by a new guide cover and was faced paying for a new microwave. £2.99 to make a new one using the old cover as a template....absolute bargain. I just cut out a piece for my microwave oven. It’s easy, just take the old one and place it on top of the new one. Use a fine tip pen to draw the outside lines and cut it. Great idea that beats paying much more for an exact replacement.
I melted my current microwave guide and learnt that it was impossible to find the exact replacement ,and even if you can they are priced between £10-£15. This wins on both fronts as there is no need to get the exact match as this can be trimmed to fit and is cheaper.
