  • Bosch GAS 35M, very good but very expensive.

I am a hobbyist woodworker and suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Desease (COPD). As such, I need to eliminate as much fine dust from the air I breath as possible. I find face masks are uncomfortable and in most cases leak. Dust filtering is specified as: Class L - Dust representing a moderate risk - The vacuum cleaner filter traps over 99 % of dust with a grain size of under 2 microns Class M - Dust representing a medium risk - The vacuum cleaner filter traps over 99.9 % of dust with a grain size of under 2 microns Class H - Dust representing a high risk - The vacuum cleaner filter traps over 99.995 % of dust with a grain size of under 1 micron (it includes carcinogenic dusts and dusts contaminated with carcinogens and/or pathogens) The Bosch GAS 35M specifications say it adheres to the M class. I found Class H equipment prohibitively expensive and I don’t deal in toxic or pathogens in the air. I narrowed my search down to either Bosch or Makita but was unable to find the Makita made for 230 volt power so I chose Bosch. The two have similar specifications and I would expect the quality to be close. Here’s my pros and cons: PROS: 1. Extremely well made, quality material and good construction all around. 2. Loud but actually quieter than my smaller house vaccum. 3. Wheels are very good, for it’s size, it moves easily around the room. 4. Very powerful high suction. CONS: 1. Very expensive, if you don’t need Class M you can save over £100 on the class L which appears to be close to identical in construction and quality. 2. The automatic self cleaning, while a very nice feature, is extremely loud, going off every few minutes with a bang. Fortunately, you can turn it off. 3. Attachments and filters, even after market filters, are quite expensive. I own several Bosch tools in my shop and have found them to be of very high quality. I would readily recommend this vacuum to anyone.

  • Lock up your dogs and warn your neighbours

I sehfvthe Bosch GAS 35M back. The auto filter cleaner feature emits a volley of mini sonic booms every 15 seconds. My two working dogs ran for cover. My neighbours probably thought there was a gun battle going on. If you value your sanity and your ear drums , steer well clear of this machine. The design of this feature has to be the most absurd, ill thought out and user unfriendly exercise in the history of history. Do not buy the Bosch GAS 35 M.

  • An extractor you can trust in.

I've used and owned various extractors over the years from different manufacturers, some I've had real nightmares with including an extractor fire, so I know these machines inside out and what I need from an extractor. I purchased this after hunting down a replacement at the best price and this was well worth the purchase. Why? Mainly due to compatibility with tools I use, the feature set including adjustable suction power, automatic filter cleaning, etc. This is a machine designed as a professional tool, not a toy. I'd like to raise a point on a comment from another review telling customers not to buy this because of the AFC (Auto filter cleaning) function. what total nonsense. Any machine which features a filter cleaning system, whether bosch, nilfisk, festool, etc, all will produce a percussive noise over periods of time, it's the method of finter cleaning and system cleaning in use, it's more a question of getting used to the machine, so the reviewer telling people not to buy this is ridiculous. I've had a few different extractors with filter cleaning, I had to get used to the first one, but after that it was fine. The purpose of filter cleaning is to keep the life of your expensive filters going, it ensures your extractor lasts longer. I've had one non filter cleaning machine catch fire due to a filter fault while sanding and I never forget that, It was designed for the jobs needed but clearly there was something wrong and the mmanufacturer I won't mention here caused nothing but problems. I am proud of this machine and would highly recommend it. If you have the Bosch L-boxx system as part of your setup, you can connect a box to the top of the vac system and move your setup, whether it's an empty l-boxx to hold extractor accessories, or a router case, saw case, etc, it makes life so much easier. I highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a shop / site vac to upport power tools, such as sanders, saws, routers, etc.
