Item runs too HOT.
Converter runs too HOT. I had it turned on in a 230v power socket, WITHOUT any appliance plugged into the 110v outlet and the converter became too hot to hold in the hand comfortably. I found gets even hotter if you plug even very light current devices into it to use. Make sure it NEVER gets covered by material (ie curtains, drapes, furniture) when switched on, as I think it could be a FIRE hazard.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not suitable for 3 pin USA plug
I bought this particular model because the USA plug on my appliance (portable speaker) has an earth pin & from the illustration shown on ebay, this model appears to have a hole for the earth pin to sit in. The item supplied does NOT have a hole for the earth pin to sit in, therefore to be able to use a three pin USA plug with this, you have to either remove the earth pin from your USA plug, or (as I did) remove the transformer casing & drill a hole in it where the earth pin would sit. It now works fine and the portable speaker is fully up and running - just be aware if your USA plug has three pins, this won't work without some modification.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

It's 45watt, check what you want to power before you complain it's getting too hot.

I got it to run a U.S. Yogurt maker as I couldn't get one in the U.K. It seems to do the job just fine. I have used it 3 times now and it has worked properly every time. Does the job and a fair price. You are supposed to use a converter 11/2 times more power than you need and as the yogurt maker takes 20 W this 45W one is perfect. This item is needed if you wish to use any piece of electrical equipment from the USA in Europe for the simple reason Europe works on 230v and USA 120v, plugging in any thing straight into the electric socket will damage the item and possibly start a fire. Unfortunately become very hot in plug after few hours, if left they stopped functioning, possibly burned.
I bought too of them and they became very hot when left plugged in and left for few hours, even if the device I have them was off.
