This is a really raw recording capturing Joe's early performances with Stu and Jonathan. Don't expect the kind of polished recordings you're used to. This double CD is full of energy, yes, but don't bother listening through headphones. Although it was recorded for FM radio broadcast, oddly, it's in mono though apparently it was remastered for CD. In a way its a hark back to the quality of early live recordings from the likes of Sabbath, Genesis and the Scorpions (think Tokyo Tapes) and Dokken's Live '95. Lots of top end on the recording and no separation but.. it's definitely raw. Perhaps both a blessing and a curse. If there's one track to buy this for, ironically, it's Stu's bass solo. Satchel Boogie too is an absolute blast from start to finish! The whole CD sounds as if Joe is practicing for something bigger and better, which of course, back in '88, he was. An intimate record of times past when Joe was just getting started. If you can get past trebley mono sound and the odd bum note (authentic to the end) - I highly recommend it. I'm sure it'll grow on me. Price is daft so there's no reason not to get this for your collection.
Even tough that on the CD sleeve the recording is described as a FM Broadcast, this is actually a very poor quality audience recording. Great artwork tough, but the quality of the audio is terrible. Buy at your own risk.
Having read reports about the sound quality , I was dubious of buying this but went ahead anyway. Glad I did! OK, sound is a bit iffy in places, but few and far between. I've heard much worse recorded by someone in the audience recording on their phone. This is miles better. Great chance to hear Joe's raw power and energy!! Buy it!!
