Bad Hair
Pelo Malo is a beautifully made and quietly powerful film that tells the story of a young boy named Junior who is struggling to come to terms with his gender identity. The film is set in Caracas, Venezuela, and it captures the harsh realities of life in a poor and marginalized community. Junior is a nine-year-old boy with tightly curled hair. He is different from the other boys in his neighborhood, and he is often teased and bullied. He dreams of straightening his hair so that he can look like his idol, a popular Venezuelan singer. Junior's mother, Marta, is a single mother who is struggling to make ends meet. She is also struggling to understand her son's difference. She loves Junior very much, but she is afraid for him.
