Keurig can be Green
Replacement for my Saeco automatic espresso/coffee machine. Miss the fresh grind one step brew system of a complete automatic machine, but this Keurig is great. A new automatic would have been close to $1,000 but this unit for a price less than 15% of the automatic is awesome. Plus the fact that you almost have to be a coffee machine mechanic to keep an automatic up and running due to its precise thus glitchy functionality. I bought a coffee grinder and 6 reusable k-cups so I can now use this machine for my custom blend, 1/2 decaf, coffee at about 26 cents per cup. I've found some Kroger Signature blend of some really fine tasting disposable k-cups of 27 cents per cup so I have an assortment of coffee blends for visitors. I detest the Keurig image of adding tons of plastic waste into the waste stream, but combining my reusable cups with minimal disposable ones, I believe makes my coffee fetish a bit more greener than full on k-cup usage. Unit has 3 preset usage levels for strength of brew and temperature, so I press just 1 button to set levels and one more to start brewing. Brewing is about as fast as my old automatic, but acceptable. Very large capacity water tank with charcoal filters. Fits on top of pull out third party cup holders so makes a tidy coffee station on our countertop. Coffee can be brewed as hot as lets say, lava, but it can be turned down and as I use an insulated cup, my coffee stays hot for over 1/2 hour.
