Fee Fi Fo Fixer - I've had my Shredder

Competitive price, delivered promptly, no problem with the transaction.. I chose a Bosch model specifically because of quality/reliability. I have several Bosch power tools, while my daughter's Bosch washing machine is nearly 12 years old and although given a family-of -four thrashing throughout that time, it shows no sign of packing up. I have had a 'test' run and while it worked just fine, bits of shredded material blew all over. A design which incorporated a chute to which a bag or sack could be tied/clipped on (or similar) would make a tidier job and have the shreddings contained ready for disposal. That's my only reservation. That said, I'm very glad I got it. Just need some dry weather to catch up on rubbish disposal!! Overall, 8 out of 10.

  • Most critical review

    Good for normal gardening waste.

Although the same make and model reference as my old machine this turned out to be a fast spinning shredder whilst my old version was a slow powerful grinder. If you want to shred small stuff this is great but watch out because if you allow the pile of shredded material to block the outlet it will quickly back up and you will need to stop it and clear it which whilst relatively easy is a bit of a pain. You will need ear plugs even though its supposed to be quiet. need to also be careful when feeding the thicker branches that you feed them into the right half of the hopper or it can ping you a nasty wrap on the fingers. I cant say I am in love with it but Im not totally unhappy. It doesnt come with a bag which is daft, use an ikea one and save £20.

  • Good when you know how to use it.

I've had a few shredders over the years, all of them the "thrash & bash" type. The previous one was a Bosch ATX 2000, which went for about 6 years before it failed (wouldn't run at all). After researching the market again, I eventually decided to buy another Bosch, because the ATX 2000 had been the best of the bunch. The ATX 22000 doesn't disappoint in its shredding, mainly because I have learned ways to deal with performance that is below Bosch's claims - those claims are a bit optimistic. It won't shred 40mm diameter twigs unless I twist them as I feed them in. It produces long thin strips when thinner twigs are fed in, but I take the strips from the bag and feed them through repeatedly until they come out a size I'm happy with. It does clog up sometimes, but all "thrash & bash" shredders do, particularly with soft material. It is easy, but slow, to clear blockages. You have to watch for the signs (less coming out than you're putting in) to avoid having to take it apart frequently. I sharpen the blades by hand periodically. All-in-all, it's good, when you know how to use it, and I'm hoping to get another 6 years of shredding.

  • Reliable and easy to operate

Very easy to assemble and operate. This machine coped easily with the woody stems of buddleia which it devoured with ease. Excessive greenery can cause the machine to clog up but this is easily remedied by switching off and then unscrewing a robust plastic handle to give access to the blade inside. Cutting back my shrubs in previous years normally took me a full day followed by trips to the tip but within three hours with the Bosch I had six large horse buckets full of chippings which I returned to the garden. A great investment in good solid engineering, and with a three year guarantee!

  • A good reliable machine

This is the second Bosch shredder purchased. The first failed after many years of use. I have marked as not good value, due to it being expensive compared to other similar machines, although I have never used an alternative machine for comparison. Replacement blades are also expensive compared to competing shredders. Over the years I have resharpened the blades, although I do not think Bosch recommends this. In continuous use I have needed 2 blades (4 sides) for several hours work - thus I have a stock of 3 blades. The optional collection bag is not good value and I recommend an elephant bucket for waste collection. In all a good robust machine that should provide many years of use, but a little expensive.

  • Easy to use shredder, not too noisy

Bought this to compact garden waste during lock-down when our local tip is closed. Feeding material in is helped a lot by the pusher tool provided, in fact this is essential. Sometimes it will get clogged up, then by unscrewing a large knob the top comes off easily and you can un-jam it. The hooks to hold the bag aren't big enough, I'm thinking of modifying these. Thin twigs may not get shredded at all, especially if they are freshly cut, so you end up with long thin bits in the bag, which was the only disappointment with this product. A replacement blade is expensive, but I see no reason not to keep sharpening them on a grindstone, and you can turn the blade over to use the other side. Overall pleased with it though, you can get about 3-5 bags of cuttings into one after shredding.

  • Does what it says it will

Very happy with the shredder - works well on smaller branches1-3cm, smaller twigs can go through intact and leaves are not really shredded but reduced 2 big piles of tree prunings to a large bag of mulch and some ueful logs without any fuss. Turing the blade over with a seocnd sharp side gives added longevity and replacing seems easy enough.

  • Brilliant bargain. Looked good and it was!

Looked to be in good condition but not working, so a slight risk that it might not be repairable. After testing, just a small lead disconnected inside. Popped it back on and away it went. Have shredded loads of garden waste. To watch those long branches disappear is brilliant. Yes it clogs occasionally, but quick clean out and back shredding again. Love it!

  • Good value for the type of jobs I needed doing.

Used it last and it worked well. Coped with cuttings and prunings. Didn't overload it and got no blockages, learnt through experience with previous machines.
