Great little charger
Bought this as a maintenance charger to keep my sports car's battery in good condition as it only has occasional use over the winter. Comes with two different battery connection leads, bolt on and crocodile clip. Bolt on can stay permanently fixed as it has waterproof cap to seal the end that connects to charger lead when not in use. Charges swiftly if battery isn't flat or faulty i was expecting more from smart charger
The status of a battery's voltage needs to be critical it identifies a 12 volt leisure battery as unable to charge but optimate did manage to charge . I like the screens info against optimate basic LEDs . Unit always runs very hot be aware it is concerningly hot ..Verified purchase: Yes

Maypole Smart Battery Charger
Does a good job, you can leave it connected (like I do to my seldom used motorbike) and it will keep the battery topped up without overcharging. Previously, the alarm on the bike would eventually flatten the battery. Comes with a connector that can simply attach to the battery and be left on permanently, only unplugging it when you want to use the bike etc, and also a connector with crocodile clips. Does the Job, and more.
This is a (to me) high tech charger. I'll just tell you what it does, and why it's very good. I ride a thirty plus year old motorcyle, that has a few charging problems. So. I clipped the charger to the battery, and it ran a diagnostic on the battery, which gave me the battery voltage, (it will also tell you if the battery is past saving, which is good to know). It then ran a charging cylcle, which sends varying amounts of amps to the battery before it decides which ampage is most suitable for that battery. It then charges the battery . When it's finished, the battery is fully charged. If you leave it connected, it will trickle charge as needed. As a bonus, there are leads supplied so you can quickly connect the charger without having to pull the battery. An important point on a motorcycle where both connectors arem't always easy to get at. Do I like it; yes. It won't cook your battery, and it won't waste time trying to charge a knackered one either. If the battery is past its sell by date, this will tell you. Seems to be well made. All auto so can't get it wrong. Will do just what I want as car will be parked up for three months and batteries will drain on modern cars in that time even if in good condition. QUALITY CHARGER AT A BARGAIN PRICE
Good quality item, robust and well made. Very easy to use with a clear readout showing all you need to know. Very handy to receive not only alligator clips but other connector to use with hard to reach batteries. Mine is under the floor in the boot so I have a permanent safe connection that I just plug the charger into without having to mess about lifting the boot floor. Importantly it conforms to British safety standards which I though was must with something like this which can be on for a long time unmonitored. All in all a great buy at a very reasonable price.
