  • Cheap and cheerful, versatile

Pros - good value, versatile (I built it with just the base but without the legs for a ground-mounted crane). Door is separate so can be glued open or closed. Cons - very old tooling is shown by a lot of mould ejection circles that are tricky to remove. One or two parts (mainly the frame to be glued to the rear of the cabin) slightly kinked and needed a liberal amount of glue. Confusing instructions about how to install the thread for the cable (written instructions very different from illustration!. Window mouldings very thick and overscale (stick out a long way from the walls). Ladder is moulded on to one of the sides rather than separate, and crude-looking. OVERALL - cheap and cheerful kit, can't complain given the price - you get a model of a heavy duty crane for similar price to a much lighter weight goods yard crane, and although intended to be rail mounted to allow railway/road vehicles underneath, it can be built ground-mounted.

  • Good value kit, fair representation of a Travelling dockside crane.

Haven't built the kit yet. It was bought for a project of a South Coast quayside I'm working on. Considering the age of the tooling, lots of plastic flash that will need careful trimming! The kit represents great value for money and with a little care with building and painting will be perfect for my project.

  • Not bad for old tooling kit

Considering this kit is based on tooling over half a century old it went together very well. Not having all jib parts supported by sprue did require some hot water unbending to get a good dry fit, but just over 2 hours to construct, plus half hour to rope hand rail on stanchions and rig jib and hook ropes, is a lot faster than my first attempt 52 years ago!

  • A good, reliable cheap model that is easy to build

This is a reworking of the old Airfix chance that goes way back to the sixties. Its a nice model and easy to assemble. I did notice though that there was a fair bit of flash on some parts. The use of recycled plastic is good but care needs to be taken that it doesn’t affect the quality of the product. All in all a good cheap model that looks good in any dockyard scene.

  • 00 Scale Model Dockside Crane

These long-standing OO Dapol plastic kits are less detailed than their equivalent modern products from other manufacturers, but provide excellent scenery when painted and are much cheaper, delivering excellent value for money to the modeler.

  • Great For model railway dock scene in 00 guage.

A very old Kit detail good, but does have flash and moulding "and sprue rings" where sprue has been ejected in the manufacturing process..... which need to be filled with polyputty, and filed back. makes an excellent addition to a dock scene on a model railway.

  • Flashy Cranes

Great product but showing its airfix age as there is a lot of flash attached. Not recommended for beginners as the flash is attached to small parts. Will look great on the layout helping to load D Day supplies at the dock.
