This Schylling Speedway Auto Racer set is a Collector Series reproduction of a classic children’s toy. Produced in 2001, the charming tin race car set is perfect for children who can't get enough of speedway races. Kids can play with this toy by themselves, or they can invite friends over and enjoy hours of fun together. Speedway Auto Racer toys are recommended for anyone age eight or older. The set consists of a track, five tin cars, and the grandstand. All the parts are made of metal. The bright-red track is shaped like a donut and measures about 14 inches in diameter. There are four lanes on the track that are separated by low ridges. The grandstand, which houses the mechanism that operates the racing, is located in the middle of the track. This part is cylindrical and has a green base with a blue roof. The sides of the grandstand are painted with yellow stands that are packed full of tiny painted spectators. You then insert the key into the roof of the grandstand and wind up the mechanism. Turn on the switch, and the fun begins. The grandstand has two short metal arms that extend on opposite sides and attach to the inner edge of the track. These arms move in a small circle and cause the track to twist while raising first one side and then the other. The motion might best be described as an exaggerated version of the way you would swirl water in a wide, shallow pan. The motion makes the cars speed around the track in a clockwise direction. Crashes are frequent, but neither the tin cars nor the drivers will suffer as a result. The action continues until the mechanism winds down.
