Variation on the standard type of trap - in this case, a sliding door drops into place when the bait is disturbed. The achilles heel of all types is that stamped, thin, crude metal parts are employed to act sensitively. In this case, the trap trigger was much too sensitive and it was almost impossible to set the trap. After studying the mechanism closely, I inserted a nail at a strategic point to increase contact at the trigger point. Humane Rat Trap!
Its excellent quality, sturdy and it did the trick. I just have one quibble. The catch that the mechanism rests on is not well designed. It is extremely difficult to get it to balance with the door open. Its very frustrating trying to set the trap! And its much too inclined to shut when the rat first touches the cage, rather than when its inside! We had to bend the catch to change its shape. Rat Trap Heavy Duty humane.
Rat Trap has several good features. Galvanised metal construction for a long life. Simple trigger mechanism. The top is panelled to help keep bait dry and prevent live rodent from nipping your fingers. Fold down handle for easy transport. Could anything be improved? The trigger is friction and can prove tricky to set. The trigger is sensitive and the trap can be easily false triggered if nudged or tapped and is close to the baited trip plate so could be nudged by the target animal, locking it out of the trap! A single catch per day could mean one trap can't keep up with a large colony. Professionals use upto 24 traps on one infestation, making these traps far more expensive than a simple multi catch walk the plank type trap that could catch over ten rodents per night. Tricky to set up but will catch most things....eventually.
Strong lightweight live trap which works quite well, if not just a bit of a faff to set, it is quite precise to set and has a tendancy to go off at the slightest touch. Good solid (weighty) cage but watch the quality control as one wasn't properly assembled and a squirrel escaped. Easily fixed but very annoying. Spot on trap
This trap has worked with amazing success. It captured eight squirrels in the first week. I found it very easy to set but does have a very light trigger. Just have to learn a technique of how to set it, once established it works spot on. The only point I make is that it could have a slightly larger door opening to make it less of a deterrent for our fury friends!
