Great Results - Small Outlay !
For the money these speakers are really good and sound excellent, not far off the slightly more expensive FLi FU5's I have fitted in the front of the wife's Honda Jazz, the JVC's being put in the back (The old head unit destroyed all four original speakers and itself !). I thought I'd try them and I am not disappointed. They are, however, exactly 130 mm in diameter (the FLi's being 128.5 mm) and would not fit directly in the conversion mounts I had to buy for the Honda doors, without opening up the apertures (I used a penknife), so bear this in mind as it took longer than anticipated. They are a concentric type of design, using the old-fashioned technique of a "parasitic tweeter", or "whizzer" cone which is attached to the centre of the woofer cone, without using an additional magnet. This means they ARE dual-cone speakers, but do not have an electronic crossover, merely a mechanical one. Instead, this uses "cone breakup" to effect the crossover frequency. Whilst not perceived or acknowledged to be of as good quality as the entirely separate designs, they are effective and efficient. This design was used in some of the famous, now highly sought-after Goodmans speakers of the 60's for instance, and now in many of the full-range esoteric (expensive ....) drivers on the market today. The additional cone is delicate and unprotected, so should not be touched or knocked as it can be crinkled or damaged. The attached photo shows the JVC in a (additional foamed-seal) mount for the Jazz.
