  • A great product

A great product and great value - I’ve already bought a few for friends as well as myself. Good quality. Whilst it says only for 7-11 speed chains, I’ve researched and it also works on single or three speed chains as their 1/2 “/12.7mm gauge and roller diameters are the same.

  • Chain reaction

Every ebike owner should have one. A simple tool that will tell you if it's time to change your chain. Ebikes are rapidly growing in popularity but if you are using them regularly particularly for commuting then it's important to maintain the bike and do a few simple checks. Its easy to tell if your brakes need attention or if something is coming loose but there is very little warning of a chain about to brake. A broken chain miles from home is a real pain. Ebike motors put a lot of additional torque or strain on a bike chain and that will cause the chain to stretch, the gears will not change smoothly and before you know it the chain can snap. This little tool simply placed on the chain will let you know if it's time to replace it. If the hook drops cleanly through the links it's time buy a new one and if it doesn't your good to go. It's as simple as that. Of course this little tool works equally well for all bike chains, you just wont use it so much.

  • Easy to use, money saving tool

It is important to replace a worn chain to avoid excessive wear to the cassette and chainrings that are far more costly. I've been putting off buying one of these and relying upon measuring the increased length of the chain to isolate roller wear. This tool makes it so much easier and quicker. It only took me a couple of minutes to check the chains on our 6 bikes and I now feel that roller wear is relevant to protecting the rest of the drivetrain. Simply insert the hook into one of the wider holes on the top of the chain and lower the other end onto the chain. If it slots in to it's full depth it has failed that test. Test for 1.0% on single speeds and 0.75% with 7, 8, 9 or 10 speed chains. My new bike/chains passed the .75% test, the well used chains failed, but passed the 1% test and my old pub bike failed both. So it confirmed my expectation that I need 3 new chains as they are all running 7, 8, 9 or 10 speed cassettes. (It is recommended that chains for 11 or 12 speed cassettes are changed at 0.5%, for which you would require a different indicator).

  • No more overlifed chains.

No more having to remember or record when I last changed my bike's chain. No more overstretched chains, and the associated gear wear. Now I can check my chain, every time I check the tyre pressures. Simple to use, light, and no moving parts to go wrong. Engraved scale that won't wear off. Just nothing to go wrong!

  • Top tool

Just what you need if your chain needs a change, if this chain tool sits flat to the chain on the 1 mark then you will need a new chain and cog or cassette or freewheel but if not then your ok if it sits flat on the 75 mark it time to buy a new chain, but a tip here, the high gear cog the one that is used the most may be worn out and a new chain may slip on that cog..

  • Very good tool

If your chain gets stretched due to wrong gearing or to much rough gear changing, this will then lead to your chain ring pre mature wear and broken teeth. This tool is good to check your chain for stretch. A well maintained chain, oil, correct use of gears, no force peddling will keep your bike running well.

  • Does what it's designed to do

The wear indicator arrived on time, as described. I used it on my chain and the indicator showed chain wear more than 1.0. Before acting on this result I checked the indicator against a fairly new chain and that showed wear less than 0.75. My chain is destined for the bin, but don't shoot the messenger, the indicator worked fine, and I have confidence in the result.

  • Helps reduce amount spent on bike repairs

Dont know how i lived my life without this product. Now I can tell if my chain is worn and replace it quickly before I need to replace the cassette and drivewheels too. Incredibly cheap but very valuable device. Saves me a fortune.
