    THE DETECTIVES DVD BOX SET

    1990s BBC-1 SIT-COM, WHICH ORIGINALLY BEGAN AS SKETCHES ON 'CANNED CARROT' IN 1990 & 1991. ROBERT POWELL IS SURPRISINGLY FUNNY AS DAVE BRIGGS, GIVEN THAT HE IS USUALLY IN HIGH QUALITY DRAMAS, AND JASPER CARROT IS AS YOU MAY EXPECT HIM TO BE AS BOB LOUIS. GUEST ACTORS INCLUDE GEORGE SEWELL, FRANK WINDSOR, TONY SELBY, BARRY CRYER AND MANY MORE.

    More than one sandwich short of a picnic.

    "The Complete Collection"....Oh no it's not, for the Series 1, 2, 3, & 4 only have three episodes each and that's a half full pint by any measure. If I'm not too doolally and using my fingers that's 12 episodes out of 24 missing..is this a case for Briggs and Louie? Mind you the icing on the cake is that all the episodes of series 5 are there, the DVD's supplied are of excellent quality, and they are fabulous entertainment. If you don't mind what's missing they are for you and represent good value, however the description needs amending to make it clear what you are buying then we could make a decision to spend a bit more for the full pint, and that's why I only gave 2 stars.

    Great 90's British Sitcom

    Fantastic series starring Robert Powell & Jasper Carrott as two inept coppers getting up to all kinds of capers. This box set includes every episode of the five series as well as the two special episodes. It would have been better if there were some special features, interviews, outtakes, etc. But I'm really happy to have this set in my collection.

    A classic.....

    I love this series with a passion. As a big fan of guitar playing comedienne Jasper Carrott used to watch his series in the 80s Canned Carrot and where I first saw the haphazard characters first, then overjoyed when in the early 90s series was born. In the show we meet detectives David Briggs (Robert Powell) & Bob Louis (Jasper Carrot), two of the police force's finest clowns led by their long suffering boss, Superintendent Cottam played by late great George Sewell who has a love/hate relationship. And throughout the series which ran from 1993- 1997 we found them in the most compromising situations, from being stuck in a container ship heading for Amsterdam sea sick looking for diamond smugglers to going undercover as boxing trainers to uncover steroid abuse themselves becoming the victim of their own success with hilarious consequences. It's so funny you'd have to watch it. A joy to behold. One of the funniest series. Both Robert Powell & Jasper Carrott, who in real life were great friends, worked so well together. If a lover of slapstick comedy , this is the one for you.

    A perfect antidote to the current lock down, be prepared to laugh your heart out

    I bought this collection to provide some relief from the usual television programmes currently being shown, what a surprise I had forgotten how hilarious this unlikely pairing was. We laughed all the way through the episodes we have watched so far, what a welcome lift from all the doom and gloom of Covid, it makes being locked down worth living.

    This Complete Selection stands head and shoulders above any other comedy I have watched over the years. I am now over 70. I was concerned before ordering that it might not seem so funny now - in 2021 - but I was wrong.
