Does what it says on the tin with very minor, non-technical alterations
Office AC broken and the landlord couldn't give a damn? No room for traditional mobile AC unit? No access to put a hose into the back of your traditional mobile AC unit - don't want to waste a constant stream of water? Want to spend around £99 instead of £350+ ? Well get yourself one of these.
Our office landlord wouldn't fix our AC so we're using one of these instead. I have marked down that this is energy efficient but I'm thinking about both water and energy here. It only uses one little tank of water (6 litres I think?) for about 8 hours of cool air. I'm not sure on its electrical efficiency, it probably isn't stellar but not awful either (just AVERAGE). It makes up for that by not needing a hose and being so gosh darn cheap.
It comes with two ice packs to float in the water tank. I added SIX more ice packs (cheap plastic ones from Amazon) and I put all 8 in, then fill over with water right to the very top of the tank. If you do that, you will be a VERY happy customer. If you neglect to add additional ice units, your water will probably be warm and thus the machine won;t do a good job. Running it how I run it, it's keeping a medium sided office room with like 10 people in pretty cool. I'm gonna' be honest here I'm VERY happy with this. Just stuff extra ice packs in, don't use it as-is out of the box.
Also: Don't use the wheels / coasters. Keep in non-wheeled and mount it up on an office shelf, it does a MUCH better job when seated a bit higher up. A+ item, collect one for your office or bedroom. Don't spend £350 / £500 on a traditional mobile AC unit and then struggle with the hose (which will use loads of water anyway) - just get THIS.
Even though it looks slightly tacky, it actually works ok and the casing (whatever it is, either ultra-hard plastic or some kind of metallic-polymer hybrid) is solid and sturdy. With the tank out or un-filled, it's actually amazingly light.
