Bose Quality Sound From A Small Package

Honestly, the reviews for this Bose 5 soundbar tell most of the story. At $250 it is overpriced from the chain stores. I was lucky enough to nab this factory refurbished one direct from Bose for only $99 on Bose's eBay store. To start on a good note, the sound is rich and full as to be expected from a Bose product. The Dialog Mode function is great for TV shows as well as movies and the bass is quite powerful for such a small unit. I mean really, this soundbar has 2 about 1 5\8" speakers inside. It was extremely simple to set up, place the unit, plug in power, plug in the included optical cable to your tv and turn on. BUT, to move on to the bad notes, it isn't very loud. I mean it's just not very loud at all. If I would have bought this from the store for $250, I would have returned it immediately after reaching max volume the first time. The remote didn't function well with my TV, which really isn't important to me. Overall, I enjoy the product for its size, simplicity and it's sound quality. It leaves a lot to be desired in terms if volume, but there are larger, more feature packed products that all are more expensive. This is Bose Quality that is several steps above bad TV speakers. Good TV speakers are about on level with this soundbar though. If you want booming bass and immersive sound, buy a 5.1 surround system. 3.1 will always leave you wanting more. DO NOT BUY A SOUNDBAR expecting 5.1 performance as some of the reviewers of this product did, but if you're looking for Bose quality sound in a small, easy to set up package for your smaller bedroom TV, like I was, this is a good deal at only $99.

    An Unexpected Disappointment

Let me start by stating that I am a HUGE fan and advocate of everything Bose and I own many of their products, which include; Soundlink, Accoustamass, L1 system with Tonematch and B2 subwoofer and finally, in-ear headphones. That being said, I purchased this Solo 15 with expectations of setting it up, which was very easy and being blown away. However, after a few days of break-in time, it did sound "Okay", which as I stated earlier in the title of this review, a disappointment. Long story short; I ended up returning the Solo15 with great disappointment, for the Klipsch model SB120, which is a larger unit, with better sound and all in all a better value.

  • Overall good sound.

Overall, quite satisfied with the unit. Unfortunately, it is a bit outdated when it comes to connections with today's components. No HDMI hookup so therefore none of your commands show up on screen and unit remote is uncapable of programming a Roku player so you find having to use several remotes. The sound is much better than the normal TV sound but still lacks some base definition that you would get from a system with an actual subwoofer. Also, most of today's TVs do not provide enough room (You need 3" minimum) for the Bose unit to sit under the TV and newer TVs have legs instead of a base that can sit on top of Bose unit.

  • Not All TV Brands output is same ...Good Enhancement to TV Sound, but very little bass,

Good overall rich sound compared to TV speakers, better sound quality when viewing shows via the smart tv's internet programs...ie...Netflix, Amazon...as I have a Samsung smart 4K UHTV, and evidently, it only allows surround sound broadcast via the Internet channels, not cable channels which TV only uses a different signal processing even though it is fiber connected..didn't know this until I was trying to change settings on TV, and found selections grayed out...and did some research..evidently Sony and Vizio broadcast surround sound as a standard selection but other brands only allow it when viewing internet shows....anyway, the Bose system is a sound base....as they advertise, it is not a simulated surround sound system with deep base, but it does add clarity and vibrancey to the TV sound...much better than TV speaker..so it is a good system.

  • Good Upgrade from TV Speakers

Took advantage of special pricing to upgrade bedroom tv sound. I have a soundlink mini 11 which I enjoy and decided to purchase another Bose. Good sound quality at that price point but at the regular refurbished price would have considered other sound bar options. Opening the box everything looked brand new. Pros: Good sound quality in a nice size low profile enclosure Bluetooth music streaming off my tablet Cons: Clunky oversized universal remote No HDMI or ARC- only optical or analog TV inputs

  • Best sound system for hard hearing

Works as advertised. Sound is very clear and it looks great. You can hear sounds you do not hear with out it. I have a hard time distinguishing words such as shows with people from England. With this speaker system, the words are clear and crisp. I installed it under my 55 inch Samsung which fits perfect. Any thing larger it might be to big to set on top. The only thing I do not like, I can not program it to turn on with my Direct TV controller. The speaker turns off by its self when not in use. Other wise, I feel it was worth the price.

  • Much Better Than TV Speaker but Some Issues

Overall it's a good product, but a couple of features I don't like. The bass control is very limited and to my ears is too much bass for things like news or talk show. The volume level does not show on screen. I often have to re-sync the sound but this may be due to the location of the speaker not receiving the signal from the remote.

  • BEST SOUND BAR FOR CLEAR VOICE

THIS IS THE BEST SOUND BAR IF MOST OF YOUR VIEWING IS TALK SHOWS AND TV MOVIES AS THE CLEAR DIALOG MODE LETS YOU HEAR VOICE AND SOUNDS THAT THE REGULAR TV SPEAKERS DON'T. IF YOU PLAY GAMES, MUSIC, OR WATCH ALOT OF ACTION MOVIES YOU WILL NEED ANOTHER SOUND BAR WITH MORE BASS. THE UNIVERSAL REMOTE IS A PLUS AS YOU CAN PROGRAM IT TO CONTROL YOUR TV, DVD, BLU-RAY, CABLE / SATELLITE BOX AND ONLY USE ONE REMOTE. THIS MODEL DOES NOT HAVE BLUETOOTH AND THE BASE CONTOL IS ON THE BACK OF UNIT AND NOT ON THE HAND REMOTE. IF YOU NEED BLUETOOTH BUY THE BOSE SOLO 15 SERIES ll MODEL.

  • NOT HAPPY

The sound is very good my wife needed a speaker system that worked in her TV room This one sounds very good but now my wife has FOUR remotes to deal with, because your universal remote code is useless, it does not work ! worked with it for hours! The TV is TCL, the DVD is Samsung, the satellite system is AT&T/ DirecTV. The Only one that works- some times the DVD. So my wife is not happy with this system. It may be replaced by a different brand if my son can't fix it. When he returns in June. I have Two Bose systems old Life style 12,s one in Living room and the other in the work shop. I know how good your system can be but on this sound bar we are totally confused !

  • Good sound bar value 'near perfect' solution.

Product arrived in 'new' condition. Installation was a breeze. The remote is a bit large - I do not use it to control other peripherals. I configured it to power on with the TV which is great. The audio is great quality (dialog enhancement feature really helps on TV news) but it exacerbates the problem of the volume of commercials exceeding programming particularly from my Roku Express and most particularly on Hulu Hand Maidens. I have asked Hulu to investigate since this is a rather common, recent Hulu complaint. The sound delay differences between TV speakers and Bose was resolved by an adjustment on my TV. So I can use both the TV sound and Bose with the Bose dialog enhancement while watching news reports.
