Do not replace the red cap, run the engine, if your head gasket is leaking the fluid will change colour. or go milky depending on what test fluid you get. Leave it run long enough for plenty of bubbles to pass through and the engine is up to temp.

Perfect for purpose
Does exactly what it says on the tin. Needed to remove a fair bit of header tank coolant to get a clear reading as first attempts contaminated from misting / spray and read inconclusive. After taking about 1/2 litre of coolant out I got a clear head gasket failure indication, later confirmed by a compression test showing zero on 2 adjacent cylinders. Sniff test was much quicker and easier and less messy than the compression test. Loads left for future use. Does the job you need it for, quickly and simply. Decent kit although the bung didn't quite fit my radiator headed tank - I know it would be tight, but I incorrectly I thought that the bung would squash down slightly. Ultimately my fault though. I had to use an alternative bung. Works as it should
Tested 10 minutes on my car as I had a boiled coolant previously. It stayed blue, so I was in doubt, then countertested with a pet bottle kept over the gas stow for a few seconds. When plugged in the tester and pushed the bottle, it took only 5 seconds and turned into yellow straight. See photos. It works. Bargain for the relief you get at the end. Highly recommended!
