At this stage of the game Ilford has the field virtually to itself with regard to medium-speed black-and-white film based on "conventional" technology, at least in the premium sector of the market, now that Plus-X and Agfapan 100 are no more. (There may be something from Fomapan, I don't use this brand). No matter – FP4 Plus is an excellent film and delivers everything that could be expected from a product of this kind. Value for money? I have used Ilford over many years, 35mm & Medium format, which I have processed myself. I have always found it a very easy going, at all stages, through to printing. It’s a great British classic black and white film, known for good sharpness and tonal balance. Works great with almost any developer, just do not do a pre-wash before developing it as it could end up with strange markings on the negative. Works best for portraits and landscapes!

It is pleasant to do some film photography as an addition to taking digital photos. I like to have the physical record in a film strip for some of my photos rather than just a computer file.
