    Weather station of awesomeness........

When I first clicked on purchasing this item, I did not realize that the screen lit up like it does. It is great compared to the last one I was using. I have it propped on its kick stand but it would be better attached to a wall at a certain height, because you pretty much need to be in direct , straight on , level sight of the front face of the unit. It gives you real time, Weather temps trending up or down, humidity levels up or down, inside and outside, and max or min readings of all.

Pretty display but limited viewing angle

Displayed information provides indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity as well as 'comfort zone'. It also displays time, day and date. There are icons indicating weather trends (sunshine, cloudy, rain/snow etc). The color display is very nice visually; however, the viewing angles are very limited (approximately 20 - 30 degrees off perpendicular to the display in both, vertical and horizontal axis) before the green and blue numerals are washed out by it's surrounding background. The black background turns into the color of the numeral (green or blue) as you move off the perpendicular axis. This is the same issue that early lcd display monitors and TV's had (some modern lcd televisions still have this issue). The display unit runs on both, batteries and power adapter; using only batteries, the display reverts to black and white mode - no color. Comparing readings to my other weather station (Vanguard Pro), the temperatures are generally within 1 deg F. Humidity readings vary from agreeing to 5-10% difference. I am using two identical displays (main floor and lower) with one transmitter unit. The transmitter is approximately 60 feet away. The main floor display unit locked onto the transmitter and has provided continuous readings. Unit number 2 located in basement (but near window) would intermittently loose the signal. Moving the transmitter closer (to within 25 feet) seems to have resolved that issue. Overall, a nice looking display and well implemented transmitter/receiver function (holds sync, unlike some other brands/models I've used). However, because of the display issue, would be hesitant to recommend this unit unless it was placed on a desk and read 'straight on' or on wall and viewing nearly direct on. If viewing angle is not an issue, then this may be a good unit for you.

  • This Is The Title

I bought this because of the size, the color display and the fact it had outdoor humidity. I am growing hot peppers and needed something with a remote sensor to monitor humidity inside the grow tent, I saw this and thought the display would be nice and easy to see. I was wrong........I have the display mounted on the wall just under 6ft up and from 12ft away seated on my couch the display is not visible. The display seems to be angle dependent for clear viewing which is a bummer. Other than tha issue I have no real complaints, it does what it says and the display does look nice. I personally feel the unit is a good deal under $40, but not any more.

  • Lots of data in this weather station

This weather station offers a lot of data to the viewer in a compact space. I like that it's not your standard colors normally associated with the weather station. It has performed well and I am pleased with it. It's accurate and gives you a good view of the weather picture in your area . The only "con" I have for all these pros is it is difficult to see the numbers from a distance of 4 or 5 feet. The numbers are white on a blue or green background and you have to get close to see it well. Other than that it's great!

  • Easy to see.

Like the unit except the outdoor readings come and go. If you are getting a blank reading and wait five or six minutes then the actual temp and humidity will show up. Do not know why it is cycling except I noted that if I turn the display off and later turn it on the outside is blank for five or six minutes, sometimes less. Haven't left it on to see if turning the display off is also turning off the reception from the outside unit so when you turn it back on the unit has to wait for the next transmission from the outside sensor.

  • Review of Wireless Color Weather Station

I received the "first" wireless color weather station and immediately attempted to set it up. Immediately I had problems getting the outside transmitter to connect to the weather station. I went through all of the trouble shooting procedures and nothing seemed to help. I called the 800 number which connects you with manufacturer and they attempted to work me through the set up format again. We ended up with the same results, no connection to the outside weather transmitter. The factory rep. asked if I wanted her to send me a whole new unit and I stated yes. When it didn't come as promised I called again and it finally arrived as promised the second time. This time when I set up the outside transmitter it worked right away and then would fade in and out. The distance to the transmitter from the weather station was only about 30 feet but it would get a strong signal and then fade away a few seconds later. I finally moved the transmitter to a location about 10 feet from the weather station and it finally got a strong signal. However, it's location is on the west side of my home now under the eaves and not on the north side in the shade where a accurate temp reading would be typically found. The color display is great and the large numbers stand out so you can see the inside and outside temps from a distance. The bad news is I have to leave an old transmitter and weather station in place to view temps from the north side of the home.

  • Fun and functional weather station

My trusty weather channel station died so I bought this one. Very nice! Clear easy to read display. Nice range on the wireless unit. It would not read the atomic clock during the day so I calibrated manually which was easy. Nice unit. After 3 days is use this unit is very sensitive to heat from house and will give give incorrect readings when hung on some exterior walls

  • Refurbished but non-functional

Was set up so indoor monitor had direct line of sight to outdoor sensor which was about 45 feet away. The two couldn't connect wirelessly. Monitor was on AC adapter and sensor had two new alkaline batteries. Spent about two hours doing multiple resets. They would connect when both were indoors about 12 feet apart. So it did work but was non-functional from the sense of it's advertised capabilities. It has been returned.

  • La Crosse Color Weather Station Good but with one flaw

This is a very nice environmental display with indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, trends, max and min hold function, as well as an "atomic" clock synchronized to WWVB. I am very pleased with the functionality of this device. My only complaint is that the color display is very sensitive to viewing angle. If you are not looking directly into the display, it is difficult to read. I initially had the unit on a shelf above eye level and used the flip-out foot on the back to support the device. With the support foot, the unit is angled back about 15 degrees and made it impossible to read the display from my normal sitting position in the room (I have the unit next to the TV). I tried hanging the unit from a nail on the wall so it is not tilted back and that helped some, but in general you need to be viewing this thing directly into the screen to get good brightness and visibility. I have an older unit with a monochrome display that is viewable from a wide angle both vertically and horizontally and I find it more user friendly for this reason. I like the C87214 in terms of features and performance and the color display is nice when viewed head on, but the constrained viewing angle is a problem and detracts from my satisfaction, hence the 4 stars.

  • Ended up being better

I wanted barometric readout, but after years of forgetting to reset the mechanical pointer on a barometer, I've decided this change-of-pressure display (sun/clouds/rain icon, needs no reset) is all I need. I really like the remote humidity. I'd prefer a larger (most used) clock, but I'm happy with this otherwise. Only 0.5 degree difference between indoor and outdoor sensor readings, until well below freezing, then Alkaline AAs should be replaced with Li Ion batts if you care about difference between cold and freakin' cold (5F and -5F)
