Super Wheels At Super Low Cost
The truth is that a rim brake wheel is still lighter and faster than its disc brake equivalent and tubeless tires are not significantly lighter than tubed tires if you use ultra light tubes and now you can get great rim brake wheels like the Mavic Ksyrium SLS at bargain prices which will significantly upgrade almost any bicycle. Tubeless tires are great for mountain and gravel bikes but the advantages become far less significant at the 700 x 23-28 size because the tubeless tire is typically about 30 grams heavier than its clincher equivalent and the sealant weighs another 25-40 grams so you have about the same weight as a tube now. The sealant dries out in as little as 2 months and you have no way of knowing if it is any good so are riding blind with no significant advantage. Don't fall for the hype that rim brake wheels and clincher tires are obsolete because they still perform well and are more convenient and cost effective. If you have a bicycle that cost $3500 or less, then these Mavic Ksyrium SLS will make a very noticeable difference in the way you will accelerate and climb hills.
