A Great Adventure Story
Not the same, Glued to Your Seat, Can't Put it Down, as reading the book. But, that is only because Hollywood had to squeeze 1,000 pages into a 95 minute film. All said it is still a great movie and these people have done an absolutely first class job of remastering and transferring this film to DVD. I have a almost new VHS copy of this film and there is no comparison. My recommendation, watch this version of The Count of Monty Cristo, the read to book. Chinese or Japanese subtitles
I ordered on my phone so I could see Monte Cristo but didn't see that it was written in another language.. Turns out it was okay cuz the stories in English but there's Chinese or Japanese subtitles during the whole movie which won't be enough for me to return it but it should be made more obvious when ordering. I ordered on my phone and just saw a Monte Cristo I didn't see what language it was in on the cover. Yes they did mention the title was in a foreign language which honestly I didn't read. I just look for name of the movie I want and what region it's in and I learned the region thing in a hard way.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

This version of The Conte of Monte Cristo follows the books very well.
Richard Chamberlain does an admirable job of playing Edmond Dantes and the film is rather well done. The revenge story against Mondego was not evident in other films about Monte Cristo. Interesting ending.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
