The Yamaha DSX15 powered subwoofer is a band-pass type amplified sub with a 15-inch driver and a built-in amplifier. The integrated class-D high efficiency amplifier provides 950 watts of dynamic power and a continuous output of 600 watts. Frequency crossover is handled by the on-board D-XSUB processing filter, which allows the subwoofer to produce frequencies as low as 45Hz and as high as 160Hz. This range of sound pairs with the amp’s 600 continuous watts to produce sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 132dB. The Yamaha DSX15 powered subwoofer provides three input settings: Normal, Boost, and Xtended LF. The Normal mode provides a balanced low-frequency response and a transparent input that gates the frequency with the D-XSUB filter but does not change the signal otherwise. The Boost mode adds power to the middle range of pass-through signal, which creates a tighter, more focused bass response. The Xtended LF mode extends the low frequency input and creates a stronger, heavier bass sound than either Normal or Balanced modes. The speaker has a 15-inch cone and a 2.5-inch voice coil. Connections are made with two XLR3-31 inputs and two XLR3-32 thru plugs that run parallel to the inputs. This setup allows the subwoofer to receive the D-XSUB processing limited sub input while allowing the unaltered, original signal to proceed to another amplifier or a powered full-range speaker without the need of an external crossover. The black band-pass tuned cabinet is 18.8 inches wide, 24.5 inches deep, and 24.4 inches high, and it weighs 83.8 pounds. The cabinet is made of wood and is covered with black Line-X coating, which is a durable industrial coating designed to resist scratches and abrasion. The DSX15 subwoofer cabinet also has rounded corners to minimize damage to the unit and to make moving and maneuvering around the subwoofer safer. A powder-coated, 16-gauge, perforated steel grille protects the front of the subwoofer. The cabinet includes two built-in recessed side handles and one 35mm pole socket for mounting another speaker above the sub. All inputs, thru plugs, mode switches, an input level control dial, and power input plugs are located on a single panel on the unit’s back. There is also a front panel LED power indicator light that can be disabled by a simple toggle button on the back panel. The back panel also includes an air intake for the built-in fan and a vented section for added cooling at the bottom of the panel. The Yamaha DSX15 powered subwoofer has built-in protection circuitry that lets the subwoofer perform at maximum efficiency while protecting the components from distortion, power fluctuations, and overdriven frequencies. All of the features and components are designed to work together ,and the amplifier, crossovers, and cabinet are integrated with the woofer and custom voice coil to provide a powerful bass delivery system that is self-contained and reliable.
