    The DIY motor mechanics prop

Have used Haynes workshop manual since they invented sliced bread. bought a 2004 Mazda MX 5 1.6. First job, find what you've got. Changed all the oils, engine, gearbox , final drive, engine coolant, plugs etc cost me just over £ 60 for items from the local motor factor, for a 74 yea old job done. I've worked on my cars since I was 18 , know my limits but the manual gives me a prop to lean on, if I'm in any doubt whether I'm up to it, check the manual if it's beyond my capabilities farm the job out to the professionals and try not to thing how much you may have saved and didn't get it right yourself in the first place. I have saved a fortune over the years, thanks to Haynes Workshop Manual. AT Wimborne

Not the Usual Quality Haynes Manual of Yesteryear

It's a paperback manual so is showing some wear already after having it open on my workbench. Pictures are small and in black and white. Also lacks the information I would have expected it to have. ie. The type of spark plugs used. It refers you to your "motor factor" or dealer. I was aware of some of its shortcomings by other reviewers but thought the price was worth a punt. Is mainly geared to the mk1 model less about my particular model mk2.5.

  • Haynes Manual by Name, but not by Quality

The one thing that defines the Haynes manual, is the clear photographs and step by step instructions... This edition of the manual is printed on extremely poor quality paper, in my opinion worse than that which is used for newspapers! Subsequently the print quality is also poor, this is especially noticeable in the photographs, which are murky looking and lack definition. If you are going to use this manual in garage/working conditions, it would not last very long.

  • Does exactly as it says in a simple easy to understand book

As with all Haynes Manuals it is simple to use, full information given including pictures, which is quite handy if one forgets where a component such as a clip goes. All data is included which is very useful when checking oil grades, capacities,Torque settings, etc. I like to have a Haynes Manual at hand before starting a repair job as a reference, the odd hidden screw, nut or bolt sometimes takes a while to find, refering to a Haynes manual saves time looking for same.

  • Good value

There is a lot of information in this book for such a low price. It's a shame the black and white photos are sometimes hard to interpret, but I guess that using high definition colour photos would quadruple the price. All in all pretty pleased with the purchase.

  • Haynes MX5 manual superb !

Typical Haynes detail and easy to read steps. Quality of print could be better but these manuals are a blessing to any serious car enthusiast .

  • very extensive, but not complete.

Very extensive and well documented with photo's. Just one thing that is lacking for me specifically: how to remove and install the steering wheel with airbag... I bought the book especially for that reason.

  • Very happy customer

Bought this book as it was hardback which Haynes no longer make. Turned up and the condition was like new! Could not of asked for anything better!

  • Manual is softback

Manual OK but it is a soft back version which I didn't realise when I bought it. Its not as robust as the normal hardback Haynes manuals

  • "Many topics and details"

Better than expected, many topics and details. It could be much better if the images were colored and larger. The quality of the paper is bad.
