Where Iggy Pop's classic debut was a bold move from his raucous hard rock n roll during his first period with the Stooges into artier rock in the form of David Bowie who oversaw production duties, this, his second solo album is a return to the rock n roll style but still very much influenced by David Bowie who co-produced on all tracks. Again he brings out the best for Iggy and although the brilliant title track is very much a 60s throwback, Sixteen, Some Weird Sin, Success, Neighbourhood Threat and Fall in love with Me are excellent rockers but with a Bowie style melody throughout. Turn Blue is the album's standout track - a slow bluesy number eventually exploding into a huge crescendo on a couple of occasions with Iggy doing his best to equal Bowie by injecting so much feeling into his voice with great results although still no match for Bowie himself. Although one track The Passenger although great is rather over exposed on radio and over represented on rock and punk compilations, Lust for Life remains a true classic along with the debut and definitely needs to be heard. The bonus live CD, TV EYE is also a great live recording including some tracks he recorded with the Stooges but the original album remains the real jewel in the crown. Read full review
