Excellent Epic Movie - One of the Best Movies Made of All-Time
Ben-Hur is probably one of the best movies ever made!!!! This is an epic film that NO film has ever achieved. I believe the 10 Commandments is as a close second...also staring Heston a few years earlier in1956 ..and certainly well worth watching. In more modern-day movies of the twenty-first century......the movie."Cabrini" will come in as a very close second to Ben-Hur. "Cabrini" is an excellent movie as well....beautifully filmed and deeply inspirational (Just like Ben-Hur). Ben-Hur won a record ELEVEN Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Wyler), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Heston), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Griffith), and Best Cinematography - Color (Surtees). It also won Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture for Stephen Boyd. I HIGHLY recommend this movie. The Blu-ray edition has great quality....and brings this movie to life. You will be captivated and deeply moved...most likely crying at the end! Fine I said Fine.
What worked was the history; however I saw this film with my father in the theater when I was eight; it was then a new release, the réal thing. I missed the part where when Bengurian Hur was in the galley rowing and another galley rammed them a foot was torn off then someone's head flew across space. The screams were real and at the time a thought that these would not have to be paid. Also, now whip lash marks on the rowers' backs. This is the only thing I missed. As for Bengurian Hur, the actor's réal name is Lester Charlston and not what the studio thought would be more fitting. The film's good but mostly for the history. Movies come and go. This film isn't an ordinary garden vegetable story. Make this a collectible. The story is challenging to your beliefs and an inspiration to your soul. It is so well made that few have attempted to make a sequel. The actors portray incredible drama and exchange intelligent dialogue. It has become a special hallmark for this era, a timeless story that can almost be as a real historic event. The action scenes are performed by very talented stuntmen and creative genius camera angles for this era. This was one of the best movies ever made by technical standards.
