Very engaging series
Groundbreaking television for its time. Tour of Duty was one of the first tv series to explore what life was like for the men on the ground during the Vietnam War. It has a variety of engaging characters, accurate historical storylines, and has some topics that really were not widely discussed until this series came out, such as PTSD.

Great Series from the 80's
I loved this series back in the late 80's as a positive take on the Vietnam Nam conflict. My father, who had done two tours in the Vietnam delta as a Navy PBR gunner on the rivers, thought the show was a good representation of the challenges and issues soldiers dealt with at the time. As far as the DVD themselves, they are poor quality in sound and video. The background music tends to drown out the dialogue at times. And it appears that the compression rate is too high, as a lot of the scenes seem to be "skippy". This is especially noticeable in the action scenes the movements of the characters have a lot of flicker like an old silent movie. But, since this series isn't readily available elsewhere, I still enjoy the episodes despite the poor quality.

You get what you expect except for the music
Very good messaging in most episodes. Great for US History in high school to show the many sides of the Vietnam War. Action is corny in spots with rubber guns and 100 yard grenade toss through trees. If you love American History this series is well worth the money especially years one and three. Biggest disappointment is the lack of music from the television series. Really miss the Paint it Black from the Stones in the beginning of each episode.

Vietnam seen as it was.
I had recorded every episode when show was on, but I changed Tv providers and had to return my DVR so I lost all my recordings. So finding this set gave me all the episodes back on disk so now I will treasure them for years. Shows are really great. Thanks.

True Memories
Reminds me of friends and times overseas. The true camaraderie we shared. No matter where we were while there. Makes me think of my age at the time I arrived in country and then the age of those who followed me in to country. Sound quality is great. I do have to lower volume during battle scenes.

Great videos, very relistic
Great videos. Very realistic--gives good insight for understanding what our people went through in Viet Nam. Acting is excellent, characters are very engaging. You really get attached to them. It's like a modernized redux of Combat! only moved up from WW-II to Viet Nam. Image quality in the DVDs is very good--remember it was TV series, not a made for hi-def Blu-Ray video. Packaging is fine, the disks are adequately protected. Evidently some intro music is left out, but there's plenty of period-music throughout the videos that will more than throw you back into that era. Overall, I find them gripping, and binge-watch one after another. Already recommended it to a friend in his 70's to help him gain a better understanding of his, recently passed, Viet Nam veteran brother. I thank God every day that even though I was classified 1A, I had a high draft lottery number and was never called to the living hell of the Viet Nam war. I was so naive and immature, I would no doubt have been killed the first day out. Or, like so many, have come back a serious addict and/or emotionally damaged for life. These guys deserve our utmost respect and appreciation.

Tour of Duty complete series dvd is a excellent buy for anybody whoduring time
I remember watching Tour of Duty back in 1987-1990 period on broadcast television. Found it very engaging and realistic in presentation of the men and woman who served during Vietnam War. The quality of the episode of the series is excellent .To have the complete run of the series is a excellent purchase

Better quality than a lot of other DVD sets. It's clear, but has that 80's film grain to it. To get a feel of what you'll be getting, watch a YouTube video of it in 720p.

Very realistic portrayal
This series is about as close as you can get without having been there. I recommend this series to anyone but especially to those who were not there and want to see what war of that era was like. Excellent casting and action.
