Excellent sound. Responsive controls. Variety of effects. Happy to have it!!

I looked at other well known digital amps. I am thrilled with this Boss 50 amp. I like having a treble, middle, and bass equalizer controls. The other amps require software to increase/decrease the mid-range. Ugh. The equalizer controls and guitar effects are responsive. I am still exploring. This is an amazing amp for the $$. The size is compact and easy to carry. It is about 7 lbs heavier than it's competitors, probably due to the speaker magnet which appears to be thicker than other amp speakers. This is important because it drives a deeper bass. I also like being able to hook my iPhone up to the amp to run sound tracks. I plan to learn how to use Garage band for that purpose, meaning I will be hooking up a MacBook pro to the amp in the future. Also, have headphones connected. I had to purchase a 1/4 male plug with a 3.5MM female. What's not to like. My friends were impressed -

    Nice but not for me.

So the almighty Katana is a cool amp. It does a lot. I mean A LOT. the thing is if you don’t need your amp to do a lot, it’s way more knobs and fiddling than is necessary. If you enjoy chasing tones and want a ton of diversity in your sound, this is a great amp for you. I found out after ordering this amp that I don’t need or want all of that and found it distracting. I’ll be putting it up for sale on Craigslist as I just ordered a Blackstar HT-1 head and matching 12” cabinet. It’s got three knobs: volume, gain, and tone. I only used the Katana on the .5w setting as I live in a townhome and it was more than loud enough for my intended use, so 1 watt from the Blackstar is plenty and as it is a tube amp, the sound is much more in line with what I’m looking for. With a Big Muff and a DS-2 the Blackstar is absolutely amazing. It also shines without the pedals. I’d play a lot of amps in your local shop to find one that suits you before committing to one based on hype and reviews.

  • Boss Katana 50 is off the chain!

Easy to dial in a good sound using it standalone, clean or dirty. You can swap pedals via the pc and use them in stand alone mode, pretty dope. It sounds & reacts very authentic. If you have only used modelers, this feels like a different animal...there will be a slight learning curve, it reacts to your picking much better similar to a tube amp. It sounds fantastic, waaaay better than my Mustang & my old line 6. Distortion in those other amps sounds like a garbage can compared to this. This thing is LOUD. Very freaking LOUD. If you don't want to mess with tubes & pedals, this all in one package can't be beat. When you tap into the BOSS TONE STUDIO, you can do anything. If your looking for distortion, use the clean channel with an overdrive of your choice then tweak the EQ, change the tone and add some noise suppression (threshold) and you can get some nasty metal tones with as much feedback as you desire. I prefer the Metal Zone pedal for the harder stuff. I'm very happy with this amp, I'm sure it will be with me for a very long time.

  • Beautiful modern tech for home practicing and even gigging

Super nice looking, compact and lightweight modeler. Forget trying to get it to sound like the tube amps...you can do that too (if you can get the software to work with your computer, all companies have issues with this in my experience, but for many it works fine). These amps def have their own sound but they have great cleans and FX right at your fingertips. I’ll probably get a footswitch but yeah. Great amp. Not a big investment and good to have around, no matter which model you get. They’re all great and lightweight and of good quality. Can’t go wrong.

  • Game changer for solid state amps

Sounds very close to a tube amp with some built in boss effects that you can use or just ignore if you prefer....This amp is a game changer....You will not believe the power and great tone with wide dynamics available with this amp....It is extremely powerful and doesnt lose tone quality when opening it up...And plays quiet with awesome tone also. Clean channel is great and crunch channel can rock hard and clean up with less pick attack or rolling back the volume on your guitar,...you know, like a Marshall tube Amp. Finally, price is absolutely a bargain up front and I realized just how much once I played through this Amp.

  • Great Amp, Great Price

The Boss Katana is in My opinion the best modeling amp for the quality and the price. The tones you can get from the amp are unrivaled. It's simplistic layout is what first caught my eye. And when I got my hands on it, it was very simple to use. I recommend this amp to anyone, to beginners, to bed room shredders. The fx editors is a lot of fun, and creates unlimited options. The choice of over 50 Boss pedals is truly amazing. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of these amps.

  • Best amp for the money!

This is probably the best modeling amp I’ve used. I’ve paired it with a Gretsch Electromatic and it sounds superb. Some nice effects and switching from clean to crunch and lead is great. Just enough distortion for me. I’m not a thrasher. Handles rock, jazz and blues very well. If you’re looking for an amp for hard core thrashing get a Marshall but this handles everything else. The acoustic setting was a nice surprise. Only wish I could combine the delay and chorus fx. It is the one drawback to this amp. Otherwise very much pleased with it’s performance.

  • Good amp but needs some changes

Sounds great, light, user friendly... don’t like that you can’t turn effects on and off on the fly, have to do it with presets and presets don’t ever sound the same from ine club to another, as with any amp. Should be able to use the large footswitch you use with the Katana 100 so you can turn on and off the effects and still reach back and adjust your tone as you play. And the knobs on top are a hassle too, should be on the front!

  • Boss Katana 50

Great value. More features than other amps costing several times as much. The ability to download extra features and optional amp and effect models is highly desirable. Light weight and highly portable.

  • This thing rocks!

Great bang for the buck! I haven’t really put the boots to it yet on stage, but so far, the sound quality is excellent, and has a lot of personality for a solid state digital amp. I am pleased with the purchase!
