Nice when it works. Frustrating when it doesn't.
For what it is, the retail price is ridiculous. $80 for a single purpose remote? I bought mine used for $20.
When it works, it's a nice device to have for when your camera is not in your field of view. I use mine for recording RC vehicle videos from my chest. I have a lanyard connected to my hero5 and it hangs from my neck. The way the connector works, it hangs upside down and I'm not able to see the back of the camera or the blinking light telling me I'm recording.
I have the remote velcro'd to my RC transmitter which is always in my field of view. So, I can easily see the blinking light on the remote while recording and also see the battery life and other useful info about the camera while recording.
My only real issue with it is that it doesn't connect properly all the time. I have to keep re-connecting it to the camera before I can use it. Once connected, it seems to work fine, but if I switch the battery, then it seems to have issues reconnecting without going through the setup again. Half the time, the setup doesn't work and the remote gets stuck in pairing mode while the camera says it's connected. Sometimes shutting down the camera and remote, then turning the camera back on using the remote makes the remote display properly. Other times, I have to repair it again.
If I paid $80 for this remote in conjunction with $300 for the camera (I paid retail for the camera), I'd be a lot more irritated at the connection issues.
