Product Information
The Martin DV D-28 acoustic guitar is quite literally the gold standard among acoustic guitars. For one, Martin guitars are known to be the best in acoustic guitar manufacturing. C.F. Martin and Company has been making fine guitars in America since 1833 and is acknowledged to be the finest in the world in acoustical instrument creation. Secondly, the D-28 is the original dreadnought style of acoustic guitar by which all others are judged by, setting the standard since the early 1930s. Martin developed dreadnought guitars during the World War I era, naming them after the uncommonly large battleships of the day. Fittingly, the D-28s size is larger than guitars typical of the time period, which results in a powerful bass and massively louder sound, rivaling the volume of electric guitars. The D-28 has stood the test of time, remaining largely unchanged for more than 80 years, and has been the go-to instrument for many great artists. It is a great choice for intermediate and advanced guitar players. Fine, quality construction with sound enhancing wood materials define this acoustic guitar. On its back and sides, the Martin D28 is made of solid East Indian rosewood, polished to a glossy finish. The top of the instrument – or the soundboard – is constructed of sitka spruce, also with a glossy finish. The sitka spruce gives the D28 its clear bright highs that complement its trademark low tones. Inside the instrument is standard “X” bracing made of 5/16-inch sitka spruce braces. The neck is made of mahogany with a genuine ebony fingerboard and bridge. Its neck width at the nut is 1 11/16 inches and the D28 has a scale length of 25.4 inches. The dovetail neck joint renders it strong and resilient, with great action and a free-flowing tone. This large-bodied steel stringed guitar produces loud, full, and rich tones. The trebles are clear and articulate, balancing out the deep, massive basses produced by the D28. These features bode well for artists needing plenty of volume or powerful rhythmic accompaniment from an unplugged acoustic guitar. The tuners on the guitar are chrome enclosed, and its pickguard is black. To add to its aesthetic value, a sunburst rosette lines the sound hole to complement the model’s classic, vintage look. The belly bridge on the D28 is made of solid black ebony with a 16-inch radius compensated bone saddle. The Martin D-28 is closely related to other Martin Dreadnaught models including the D-18, HD-28, and HD-28V (HD-28’s “V” for vintage version). The latter two acoustic Martin guitars share the D-28s classic herringbone inlay trim that lines the edges of the guitar’s front, again adding to its vintage look. The D-28s mahogany neck is carved into a low-profile shape for comfortable handling of its six strings. The mahogany wood also complements phosphor bronze strings well for nice, softer tones as well as bright highs. Fingerboard inlays and back purfling also add to the guitar’s classic appearance. The Martin D-28 is a great investment, as a reliable standard and go-to instrument in acoustic guitars for nearly a century.Product Identifiers
