Too good for me
I am significantly deaf and using the K550 for sound from a Sennheiser unit which feeds audio from TV, radio via BlueTooth, in such a way that it is of considerable benefit to me. The K550 headset presented a bargain and such a performance level that I had to get me the ultimate benefit from the Sennheiser. A good replacement for the original K551 pads
Easy to install, good fit. The only drawback is that it's missing the L/R markings. I would have also preferred ones in silver/gray (original color) as I have the white version of the AKG K551. But they look nice in black as well.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Simply the best you can buy at any price
These are extraordinary. They are a third the price of the high end Sennheisers, and they are closed back. But they are the best quality reproduction you'll find at, probably, any price. When these were bought they were selling under £100 on ebay - don't know what they are now. But they would be good value at a far higher price. They are reasonably sound isolating, though do not blank out all external sounds. They are perfectly balanced. There is not a hint of exaggerated bass, but when its there in an acoustic instrument, you hear it. You also catch low volume detail which is blurred on many headphones, the fingering for instance on a stringed instrument if it has been close miked. The only reservation is that they are rather large, and the adjustment is not big enough. It is easy to fix, if you just get some foam padding to put under the headband. The material is also non-breathable and can get a bit hot over long periods. But weighed against the quality of the sound these are trivial. If what you want is uncoloured sound, the way it is on the recording, no bass exaggeration, no sibilance, these are what you want. If you listen mainly to small group classical, baroque or chamber, once you have them you will stop thinking about trying anything else. Well recommended.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Best in class for the money
I have had a previous set of these headphones but I went to grado for in house listening. Instead I've now bought a second pair - 551s and not the 550s. They are superb value for the money and have a detailed warm sound. I've been a littlend naughty and have cut the headphone cable and soldered it to a Bluetooth adapter (trond) and silicone the adapter to the side of the headphones and now have an amazing bluetooth headset! But on their own (unmodified) they are great. Ideally suited to mens big ears and not a lady's headphone.... in my humble opinion.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Amazing sound.
Prefer closed back cans due to home environment and have had a pair of Sennheiser 429s that l've always thought we're pretty good until l bought the K550s. How wrong l was! The K550s are better in every department, from build quality to sound quality. Especially sound quality. I'm hearing nuances in my cds that l never knew we're there. Everything is tighter, the bass more resonant and the soundstage more airy and expansive. They're big cans, but comfortable and I've no intention of taking these outdoors that's no problem for me but it's worth bearing in mind.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished
