Reliable retro option, great labels for outdoors

I’ve had one of the new school white label thermal type labellers for a long time and whilst it may seem a niche gadget you soon find yourself reaching for it regularly. New style printers like this offer a much greater range of characters, numbers and punctuation specifically but the down side I found was firstly the tape is very expensive, and wasteful on plastic packaging and secondly it fades in the sun, fine if you don’t have exterior uses for it but I found myself having to re do all the letter boxes for our flats yearly! My neighbour had one of These old school type labellers and once the done for outside items it’s fit and forget. The tape is cheaper, initially I wanted more of a simple/retro labellers of this type..I went for very cheap/unbranded but the printing requires a knack, advancing it can be tricky on these cheapies, you can end up with long labels ruined by characters overprinted, I then chose a new dymo for reliability in this regard/the mechanism is better/thought out/more fool proof,. Other downside is as you can’t see the entire label when printing you can lose your place and again..mess the whole thing up! Obviously the militaristic/retro look of the labels can be a draw..or a turn off! They do stick like the proverbial!

    Rubbish

Can't read labels as the lettering is so light that the white does not show through and the scissor action does not cut through the label. total waste of money. Tried pressing really hard but only works sometimes so whole text wasted.

  • Embossed

The printer is a nice hand size and the letters are easily positioned. I find that when embossing the letters. A firm pressure a needed otherwise the letters do not come out on the tape clearly. The only downside in my opinion is the tape itself. I purchased 4 spare reels of tape. The tapes were from Dymo, and the stick quality was poor. I was labelling up the duckets in my workshop and the labels once pressed into place after a couple of hours started curling up and dropping off. I would say if you had a lot to label up an electronic one would save having cramp in your thumb. It is meant for short term use only.

  • Great product doing the job its supposed to

Does brilliant, clear labels. The first tape was already in the Dymo so no set up fiddling about. This is just like we used to have when I was at school. No silly computer input, just take it out of the drawer and do want you want. The sticky backing even works on our doorbell. Have read a few reviews where people mention that you have to press hard, of course you do; you are making an imprint into 2 layers of plastic, it only requires a firm grip.

  • Works great

Great product, easy to use. Comes with the tape already installed. Add a "space" at the start and end of each label to avoid cutting off the edge of letter, and give a firm "click" to ensure clear printing.

  • Great Product

Amazing product don’t know why anyone would buy the adult version when this is cheaper and does a great job, love the prints it creates and helps me organise everything. Just some advice for whoever buys this make sure to put enough pressure down and press for a few seconds to get a better embossing. Love this product!

  • Decent enough

Got this yesterday and it’s ok considering it was pretty cheap. Sometimes the letters are not a prominent as I’d have liked and some tape gets wasted when you have to press the space a few times to make the tape come out far enough to cut it. Other than that it’s done a decent job so far.

  • Easy to use - you'll be labelling everything!

All the family love using this, you have to press firmly to get a clear letter - but once you have the hang of it its very easy. I got different coloured tapes which are easy to install.

  • Adequate

For the price it’s not too bad but the print quality isn’t brilliant & you really have to press the lever hard to achieve any decent print. Also no means of doing decimal points or full stops.

  • Ok for the price

Ok for personal use but you may need something sturdier for office or if intending to use it a lot. A little difficult to cut the tape once you finish making the label and you have to push really hard to impress the letters.
