Compatible with the wide variety of gaming software available, this mechanical keyboard unites with a PC easily through a mini-USB 2.0 or a PS/2 connection. When connected through the USB, up to six keys can be pressed at the same time. For all keys to be recognized at once, the PS/2 connection is a viable option. The length of the braided USB cable is 70.9 inches, allowing multiple options to choose from when determining the perfect location for the household gaming system. The polling rate for how often the PC will check the USB at 1,000 hertz is ideal for gaming. As a mechanical keyboard, Cherry MX switches with gold plated contacts are used. This makes typing and gaming a faster, more interactive experience with the keyboard. Each Cherry MX switch is color-coded to determine its type. The blue and the green switches are the tactile switches that please the auditory senses. As each key is pressed, the switch sends a bump and an audible click in response to confirm that the key press was activated. This feature gives the gamer confidence with each keystroke knowing when the audible click is heard and the bump is felt, the corresponding action within the game occurred. The senses can then signal it is time to quickly move on to the next keystroke. The difference between the blue and the green switches is that the green switches are stiffer so they are typically reserved for the space bar used by the more forceful thumb. Brown switches are a compromise for keyboards to be used interchangeably in both typing and gaming activities. These tactile switches remain silent, which keeps roommates and workspace neighbors happy. Black switches and red switches are linear switches, which do not respond in a tactile or audible manner. Black switches have a higher weighting resulting in a stiffness that reduces accidental key presses. Red switches have a lighter weighting and are found more often in keyboards used for gaming activities since the low force required for activation promotes quick fire power. Enjoy long gaming sessions because the Cherry MX mechanical switches have a life expectancy of 50 million keystrokes. The keycaps can be removed using the keycap puller. This allows thorough cleaning of the keyboard, replacing the keycaps to create a uniquely styled keyboard, or to remove keycaps that are not required for the intended use of the keyboard in order to increase efficiency during gameplay by mitigating unintentional keystrokes.
