An old friend with a nice surprise

I have been Carrying a firearm in some capacity since I was 17 yrs old and enlisted in the marines (with parents help) I first discovered the TRL series light when I was a Fugitive Recovery Agent. And continued to use it while doing Private Security and as a Firearms Instructor. The whole time doing double duty protecting my family. I've had it mounted on many handguns and a couple of rifles. I run it on my Glock 19 currently and with the proper two handed grip my support thumb is in the PERFECT position and the actuator for the light is right there! The surprise came when I upgraded to the HL (High Lumen) model. Man is it nice! The big plus is even with the extra light i dont get a lot of washout or blindness if you will when working with it indoors when i'm close to a wall. I've tried high output lights and when i use them inside a building and come too close to a wall the light creates a flash blindness for the user. Not this Streamlight! So the familiar ease of use combined with the solid construction and now High Output without hampering my line of sight has made me question why I even tried other lights in the past. And if you want or need or are required to have a strobe feature they have a model like that as well. So basically if you buy a TLR series light you will "see the light" .

It's Fuggin' Bright, and Large in all the Wrong Places for Me

It fits the gun, it casts more light than the high beams on a full sized 2016 ford transit, (no Bat signal around, and I don't want to talk to that jerk anyway) Fastener bolt hole is single position so with my Canik-TP9 series (full sized frame) the switch doesn't clear the trigger guard enough to bring the unit far enough back (there is a slot for the light, if it would fit) for my dainty little paws to like it straight out of the gate. It is probably more an issue that they didn't design this to fit my Turkistanian pistol (2019 handgun of the year) since they can't shrink the light, maybe an extended switch would be a nice option considering the manufacturer offers specific pieces to attach the fairly pricey light to several other mounting systems and the relatively cheap gun comes with several other back straps for shooter preference, combat effectiveness and comfort. What do I know though, I'm just a consumer....

  • Perfect for its intended job!

This light works very for its intended purpose as a weapon light. It does have a short battery life but it is not meant to be used consistently for long periods of time so I am ok with sacrificing battery life for lumens. I was able to easily see into the dark about 30 yards off my balcony (possibly more if not for the wood line) and in a house it is extremely effective in lighting up a normal sized room. The simple up down switch is very intuitive and installation and battery replacement are super simple. I have not had a chance to put it completely though its paces yet but so far I am very happy with this light. I would not call it a really light light (haha) but it is not so heavy that it effects my ability to use it, only my ability to carry it daily. I don't really have a point of reference for comparing it to other dual CR123 weapon lights that it could be lighter or heavier than, but I use it as a bed stand light and if I chose to carry it mounted to a side arm every day for concealed carry I would need a wider belt and something to counter balance it, but that's just me. Others may have no issue with the added bulk and weight for every day carry. If you are looking for a good weapon mounted light that is easy to operate, install, switch between weapon platforms and provides a blinding amount of light I highly recommend the TLR-1 HL.

  • Don't go buy a different tactical light!

I swear that this is THE BEST LIGHT you can buy for the money hands down!!! After trying out my brothers TLR-1 HL (old model 630 lumens) that he uses on his duty weapons (AR15, Glock 40, and his shotgun) I was sold!! This new version of the TLR-1 HL is a whopping 800 lumens and for its brightness and toughness I would put it up against any high dollar over priced tactical light out there. Not to name any other brands but that 300+ dollar light your looking purchasing is a overpriced piece of **** compared to this one! I hope for your benefit that you read my review and take what I said into consideration... if you don't, good luck to you because you paying way too much for an inferior product! -Bryan

  • Great light, great price

I rate this 4.7 stars. The reason for not 5 stars, the activation switch feels a little flimsy but overall not too bad. I compared this head to head with the more expensive surefire x300u-b 600 watt. The streamlight has more flood and the sure fire has a little less flood and a littlw more range. The streamlight is just a little brighter and the color of light output is more white with the stream light. My overall opinion is you cant beat this for a sub $120 light! I bought 1 of the surefires and 3 of these after i compared the 2 head to head if that says anything.

  • One of the best pistol lights!

This is one of the best weapon mounted lights you can get, specifically tailored for pistols. It has 1,000 lumens and 20,000 candela units of power, making it easy to identify targets out to around 200-250 meters. It came in around 125 grams (4.4 ounces) on my scale. Definitely consider this light as an option for your pistol, or rifle, if you are looking for something to help you light up the night.

  • Streamlight TLR-1 HL Weaponlight

After my first one, I was so impressed with this weaponlight that I mounted them on several of my firearms. They are intensely bright (630 lumens) and can be set into multiple modes. Off, Light on all the time, Light on momentarily, Strobe on all the time, Strobe on momentarily. It has a rocker-type of switch which can be accessed by both right and lefthanders easily, mounts to standard picatinny rails and has, for me, been 100% reliable. It is powered by a pair of CR-123 batteries which mount through the rear under the activation switch. One thing that is not totally intuitive is the way that you open the battery compartment, it is slightly odd...but it works quite well...just read the enclosed direction and it's easily done...no tools needed...although a coin is useful to tighten up the mounting screw. Once mounted, the light will be stay solidly in place. You will not be disappointed with this little light! And did I mention that it is VERY bright?! Quite high quality too! I'll be buying more of them in the future!

  • Super light

This is a great light. It’s mounted on my tactical 12 gauge. Casts enough light to compliment my practical outside shooting distance, and would be more than ample for indoor work. It was easy to install on my short Picatinny tube mount. Solidly constructed and nicely machined. The switch on the back is easy to operate. I was so impressed with this light I bought a second Streamlight for my ‘modern sporting rifle’. Overall, I am very happy with this product.

  • Great light

This is the third pistol light I have purchased (1 Surefire and 1 Inforce). I've run this light on my full size M&P in two courses since purchasing. Light ran well with battery usage better than expected. (Though this will get warm while using it is not a big issue. ) At over 600 lumen it compares well to a Surefire but, being a little shorter than the Surefire I like this light better. Activation switches were easily reached and activated (better than the Inforce) by my average sized hands. The light has good overall throw with enough light to illuminate a large area when searching outdoors. The light came with extra pieces to fit a variety of platforms and the instructions were easy to follow. I am already saving to purchase another.

  • Streamlight TLR-1 HL 800 Lumen Weaponlight

I needed a light with the strobe function as well as a steady bright light for my home defense pistol. After looking around, I found this light which is made by one of the industry leaders, is small, durable to recoil and not too expensive. In strobe mode or steady light mode this light is spectacular with its 800 lumen output. It also isn't a battery eater. The rocker off/on switch offers momentary light if pushed one way and full time on if pushed the other way. A quick double push activates the strobe mode. The length of the light will cause the end of the light to slightly protrude beyond the end of pistols with 4.5" barrels or less but not enough to present a problem. The light comes with adapters which allow proper mounting to a variety of pistol rails. You will need to have one of these adapters in place to prevent the light from slipping off the rail during recoil. I am quite pleased with this light and would buy it again.
