    Ampeg PF500 will work!

I play in a medium size church and this amp punches right out there. Great sound and you can easily find what your looking for tone wise. I play Fender Ps and Js with it. used it in a outside venue this summer and it had no problems reaching out there. Very, very satisfied with this head. i have it screwed into a 4X10 cabinet for the flip thing, great, easy to move rig around. Only thing I don't care for is that if you use a ipod, etc to practice with you must use headphones as it does not play your source through the speaker, bad idea in my opinion. I use some Skull cans for this now so its ok.

    PF500 failure

Tried the 500 and while it sounded good it went into protect mode with Gain and Master halfway up. All the forums are right- these amps go into protect mode too easily and only powering off and on again will reset it.

  • Great bass amp

If you want an excellent bass amp that works for acoustic bass or electric, you should buy the Ampeg. I am so happy with this amp and I imagine you will be too. I have it running through my Epiphany 112 speaker cabinet and it sounds amazing. There are lots of options for creating the sound you want with an eq that is selectable and several preamp options. I am more than happy with this amplifier. I consider myself pretty discriminating when it comes to the sound of my four acoustic basses and four electric basses. This amp has so many great features, including a compressor that is totally transparent with respect to the tone, a bass and treble boost that is really great, a midrange tone control with 5 bands that works very much like a parametric eq. Wow, Ampeg really nailed it with this amp.

  • Affordable, Easy to Use, Good Sound

If you're looking for classic Ampeg sound look no further. This head is a light and affordable option for home use and small venues. It has a very nice Overdrive. The "low boost" button scoops out the mids, sounds great if that's what you want. The "high boost" scoops out the bass in favor of mids/treble, this sounds good too. You can have both on at the same time and essentially what you'll get is a very treble-y sound. I'm not a big fan of the compression, it doesn't do a lot and what it does doesn't work well for my style of playing (metal/rock/jazz). It has an FX loop on the back which is nice if you want to place some pedals before the poweramp. It has a 3-band EQ with the option to select from 5 different midrange frequencies you want to emphasize. A 7-band EQ would have been nicer, but you can always get a pedal for that. Overall it has limited features but it provides a very warm, classic Ampeg sound for an affordable price. My guitar even sounds good plugged into it.

  • Lightweight, powerful, lots of features.

This amp is a great performer, and is loaded with features. It's easy to take with you to practice, and keeps the feel and functionality of a much larger amp. It can be used with headphones in conjunction with your favorite music player, while preserving all that legendary Ampeg tone in a small package. Retains all the same tone-shaping functions of its bigger cousins, such as the Ultra HI and LO buttons, and the 5-position midrange tone selector. I used this amp to power an Ampeg SVT410HLF, and it was plenty enough to push it with.

  • Loaded with extra's and sounds great with plenty of power

Tone can be shaped to your liking with plenty of power to cut through the mix with ease. Light weight and does not take up much space while transporting. Great amp for the money. Ampeg has been on the top of their game for along time. I recommend this amp.

  • factory refurbished...Fixed

Having read most of the reviews, I purchased this unit on the premise of its issue of dying had been updated, being factory refurbished...reflecting on the very reasonable price in which I paid. Ampeg has a reputation in the live music scene as being dependable , I hope to have a great experience with this unit, KMAN

  • Great amp

I’ve been a markbass supporter for years and recently purchased the Ampeg PF-500 which is astounding. It is quite simple to dial in your sound. I play fingerstyle and slap which the PF-500 gave a depth and brilliance I wouldn’t have expected. Well worth the money.
