Great little kit. I'm buying another!
On first inspection, there is a lot for the raw beginner to deal with, but if you are gung ho enough a fine representation can be built from it,
I loved the detail in the gun bays, cockpit & the undercarridge , but a pre-cut section in the wings for the gun bays would entice beginners even more to try to go all in for detail.
I've built over five thousand kits over a forty year period of building ( no breaks!), nothing fills me with dread anymore, generally I peruse the kit, go over the instructions, inspect the decals thoroughly, I became aware of a minor issue early on, with part D52, being given to more than one component!, ( Airfix are aware & will correct it in the next batch!) , but with a little use of the grey matter, its not hard to see what's what.
It goes together fairly well, initially my thinking was it was the wing section was going to be a bit flimsy, but once the wheel wells were in, it started to stiffen up, even more so when the tops of the wings went on. The detail on the wheel struts is good but they do look a bit feeble compared to the "Beefy" look of the typhoon. The weapons were good & its nice to have options.
I initially got the starter/ gift set with one decal option, which has different decals to the standard kit that has two decal options, but, I liked the kit so much, I got that one too!, there yet could be a third purchase!!, but with after market decals as I adore sharks mouths... ( which Airfix do already in 1/24 scale I think, hint hint Airfix!).
Overall, a well thought out kit, that goes together quite well without too much fuss. the end result should give you quite a close representation of the real thing. A lovely little build & highly recommended, for beginner to expert alike.
Well done Airfix, now where are those sharks mouths.......
