Great economic replacement jockey wheel for smaller boats
Good quality, functional , easy to fit and cheap . Works fine for a season of boating then tyre will suffer from wear or jacking mechanism will size up . But it's great value and what do you expect from a piece of equipment that gets regularly immersed in salt water. I found this item a waste of money as I wanted to be able to move a loaded trailer into awkward places. the wheel was too slow and hopeless to steer due to the position on the trailer. Overall a good bit of kit. Let down by a tyre/tube that will not hold pressure for more than a week or so.
Fits a standard built in 48mm jockey wheel clamp as well as the provided bolt on one. If you wish to use a trailers built in clamp it is an easy task with anyone above a room temperature IQ to split the upright section into its outer & inner sections. A bit of care to line the two up when the outer is inside the clamp bur then the task is complete. A good idea to ensure that you add extra (waterproof?) grease for the screw thread. If you are using the provided split clamp it is still a good idea to add the extra grease. There is a need to be aware that if you are using one of these wheels to replace one of the solid rubber type that the tyre will be of a somewhat lager diameter and so may reduce ground clearance. Overall a good bit of kit and ideal when you have to hand manoeuvre a trailer on soft or rough ground. Let down by a tyre/tube that will not hold pressure for more than a week or so. If you don't have a motor mover. . .
Such a simple and cheap modification has meade life so much easier. I don't want the weight of a motor mover so simply by swapping to a pneumatic tyred jockey wheel I've made it so much easier to move the caravan by hand. I was really amazed at the difference, particularly on the sort of shale/gravel surface you get with hard-standings. Fair product at a sensible price.
The tire was bigger than I expected, so not as tidy a fit on the caravan. Even with the tire inflated, it still seems to distort when going over uneven grass, with the powered mover providing the drive to move the caravan. Also not convinced about the stability of the mechanism when fully extended (which I need to do to level the caravan when stored), as there appears to be some lateral movement between the sections.
