  • Still unbeatable...

I've had 2 of these cameras (first one fell off a gatepost and damaged the AF), and to be honest for the money I still don't think there's anything to match them. I use a full-frame mirrorless by Sony too, so that does the majority of the heavy work, but 2 years ago I produced a calendar using a combination of RX100 Mk1 images and those done on the "big" camera...I swear at A4 size you couldn't tell the difference. Yes, there are more modern cameras including the later variants of the RX100 but I reckon this first version still punches way above it's weight. Built like a tank and IQ is incredible.

  • "Good, but could be better!"

My first Sony still camera - a nice piece of kit that delivers excellent quality results thanks to an impressive lens. However, I found the instruction manual a bit feeble on instructions and info compared to my Canon camera manuals - small text and nothing in depth. Also disappointing was the fact that this camera is not compatible with my Adobe Bridge software (CS5) and so I can't access RAW files unless I use Sony's own image processing software, which to be frank is not as good as Adobe Camera Raw in my opinion. I also have difficulty in downloading the software as it fails to run on Windows 7 and every time I want to process images I have to download it again and again, but that's probably a Windows fault rather than a Sony one. Ergonomically, the camera needs a front panel grip for ease of use - but they are rather expensive and Sony really should have addressed this by making it an integral part of the camera, rather than having to purchase a small piece of plastic from them at high cost to do the job. Recharging the battery is done in camera via USB/mains adapter - I've had to purchase a separate mains adapter as an alternative for times when you need to charge a second battery whilst using the camera. So, a very good camera as far as photo quality is concerned, but let down by niggling shortcomings as far as I'm concerned.

  • Cheap option for watersports

Cheap option for watersports when used with a Seafrogs underwater camera case. Fab image quality, useful fill in flash and great zoom + Raw images and hd video.

  • A little beauty.

Okay. It doesn't have a 30 times zoom lens but it does have a massive (for compacts) 1" sensor. Which means you can cram a lot more detail into your pics. It can shoot in RAW format as well as JPEG. Which gives you a lot of leeway in post processing. It's tiny. You can slip it into an inside pocket no trouble. But I prefer to used a faux leather camera case with a neck strap to prevent it slipping from my fingers. Very happy indeed with the camera and it's ideal for those times when you don't want a DSLR hanging round your neck.
