  • It's ok but....

Bought one for each of our cars after my new car got keyed when parked in street overnight. Easy to install both front and rear cameras. The metal bracket for the rear camera has to be bent to get the right angle...too many adjustments or bending too far I can see this breaking very easily. Front camera is unobtrusive and better than the ones that hang on suction cups. They call it a stealth camera in that when installed near the rear view it's hard to see from outside....so why supply a grey sticky pad. Black would be better. 720 resolution on the rear is a bit fuzzy so you can just make out number plates etc. Front camera is very clear during day. Night recording is ok when driving but when parked up you can't see anything even when parked under a streetlamp. I used an OBD power cable to permanently have the camera on motion detection (parking monitoring) but it takes a second for the camera to start recording. It only tends to record for 10 seconds which has meant just at a crucial part it stops recording and then restarts a couple of seconds later. Time lapse function enable longer duration of recording. It says 32gb max card size...with 1080 +720 this equates to about less than 4 hours recording time in total. Parking mode fills SD card with lots of 10 second clips where you wonder what triggered it. Sometimes it can be the sun going behind a cloud! For the price it is a good camera although the Anker dual 1080p camera is only £30 more and I do wish I'd bought that one. No memory card or GPS module included. (But speed recording not always as in the event of an accident at 80mph on motorway could lessen your claim)

  • Reasonably Priced

Did not want to spend too much on a dashcam and came across this which had pretty good reviews and was quiet suprised with the quality. Wanted a stealth type webcam and this certainly is that. Its pretty well hidden on your windscreen and does cause a problem when driving. Its a pretty good playback on your pc and is removed from the screen easily. The only problem i have is that i had it wired in to the fuse box and it is constantly on 24hrs, good if you want 24 hr protection but i am not sure as to the drain on the battery so i just switch it on and off over night. i placed a 32 gb memory card in and that just seems to do the trick. Overall i am very pleased for this reasonably priced cam and would recommend if you dont want to spend too much.

  • Compact, discreet and relatively good image quality.

This is not a 'top of the range' dashcam so doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, but it does a great job. The image from the front camera is certainly good enough and clear enough to define details, read registration plates (unless a car is zipping past at high speed), so for general use it is excellent. The rear camera is lower resolution but still returns a very presentable image that would certainly provide evidence in a rear end collision or to show someone was travelling too closely behind you. It does not provide you with car speed, GPS location, etc, but again, that's the domain of the higher end, more expensive dashcam. It does not cover you when the engine is switched off either. For that you need to wire it directly to the battery circuit rather than use the 12 volt plug in adapter that comes with the unit. I think there are additional packages from Apeman that allow you to do this if you think you need it. Incidentally, it's a nice feature that the 12 volt plug has a USB port on top so that once it's plugged in you can still charge a phone when you are on the go without having to unplug the dashcam. So if you're looking for that bit of peace of mind so that you have evidence and a bit of protection from the boy racers who might cut you up, pull out in front of you, ram you from behind, slam their brakes on for insurance scam purposes, and so on, this does the job perfectly.

  • Simplest dash cam to use

I've had a few dash cams and most are made in China , with the instructions translated into broken English , and the writing is too small and quality is SO SO . I had heard of apeman dash cams and did some research, all seemed good for the price , Weren't wrong , Simple to set up and easy to understand the instructions Also there is the facility to add a GPS sensor for a nominal price which I have just ordered . For the price this dash cam is excellent value for money . Well worth paying a bit more

  • Why this is an issue I don’t know

It’s a dash cam the weight doesn’t come into it it is great value for what I paid for it compared to the price I initially saw it at. I use them at work and they work well and easy to use. Front and rear are extremely useful on the same camera. Recommended if it’s a general use “middle of the road” camera.

  • Better than the last

Wanted a discrete dash cam from reviews picked a Am*cam which at just over 12 month old started playing up and eating sd cards, so the search started again, picked the Ape-man again on reviews. On delivery (early than stated) impressed with the package, feels and looks well made, even got operations manual included, ( the other didn't) very easy to set up and calibrate, sits behind the rearview mirror, not bothered with the dinky rear view camera as of yet, would have give five stars if it had included GPS module instead of the rear view camera. Time will tell.
